## What it does

The skill supplies structured rules for static analysis (SAST), dynamic application security testing (DAST), and code reviews. It targets OWASP Top 10 threats, session management, authentication logic, and secrets detection across repository files.

A bundled Python script demonstrates web crawling and active scanning with the `zapv2` client library. Active scans require that proxy. If OWASP ZAP is not listening on `http://localhost:8080`, the scanner fails immediately.

Included reference guides focus on practical vectors: SQL injection, cross-site scripting, CSRF defenses, and security headers. The guide also establishes baseline hygiene, enforcing parameterized queries and dependency auditing inside CI/CD pipelines.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill security-testing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/security-testing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/security-testing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill security-testing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/security-testing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill security-testing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/security-testing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts security-testing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/security-testing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill security-testing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --path skills/security-testing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/security-testing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aj-geddes/useful-ai-prompts --skill security-testing -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- Audit application code against OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities
- Set up dynamic application security testing with OWASP ZAP
- Detect hardcoded credentials and exposed secrets in repository files
- Evaluate API endpoints for SQL injection and cross-site scripting risks

## Example prompts
- Review our authentication endpoints and generate test vectors for SQL injection
- Write a Python script using OWASP ZAP to spider and scan the staging API
- Check our project dependencies for known vulnerabilities and review security headers

## Overview

Security testing identifies vulnerabilities, weaknesses, and threats in applications to ensure data protection, prevent unauthorized access, and maintain system integrity. It combines automated scanning (SAST, DAST) with manual penetration testing and code review.

## When to Use

- Testing for OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities
- Scanning dependencies for known vulnerabilities
- Testing authentication and authorization
- Validating input sanitization
- Testing API security
- Checking for sensitive data exposure
- Validating security headers
- Testing session management

## Quick Start

Minimal working example:

```python
# security_scan.py
from zapv2 import ZAPv2
import time
class SecurityScanner:
    def __init__(self, target_url, api_key=None):
        self.zap = ZAPv2(apikey=api_key, proxies={
            'http': 'http://localhost:8080',
            'https': 'http://localhost:8080'
        })
        self.target = target_url
    def scan(self):
        """Run full security scan."""
        print(f"Scanning {self.target}...")
        # Spider the application
        print("Spidering...")
        scan_id = self.zap.spider.scan(self.target)
        while int(self.zap.spider.status(scan_id)) < 100:
            time.sleep(2)
            print(f"Spider progress: {self.zap.spider.status(scan_id)}%")
        # Active scan
        print("Running active scan...")
// ... (see reference guides for full implementation)
```

## Best Practices

### ✅ DO

- Run security scans in CI/CD
- Test with real attack vectors
- Scan dependencies regularly
