## What it does

The skill holds a conversation about where AI already sits in daily product work, then sorts the answers across five product competencies: context design, agent orchestration, outcome acceleration, team-AI facilitation. You end up with the gaps named and a first capability to build. Budget 15–20 minutes.

Its core distinction is between two modes of working. In the first, AI makes existing tasks go faster. In the second, the process itself gets rebuilt around what the model can do. A rival can copy the first by adding headcount. A rebuilt workflow is harder to match, which is why the opening question asks which mode you are actually in.

The answers set the value. Replying that the team uses AI everywhere produces a score just as vague, because the questions turn on specifics: which constraints are written down, who checks model output, what counts as evidence. Context passed with the invocation skips the opening prompt. Author deanpeters, repository `deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills`, license CC-BY-SA-4.0.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill ai-shaped-readiness-advisor -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/ai-shaped-readiness-advisor/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/ai-shaped-readiness-advisor/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill ai-shaped-readiness-advisor -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/ai-shaped-readiness-advisor/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill ai-shaped-readiness-advisor -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/ai-shaped-readiness-advisor/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills ai-shaped-readiness-advisor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/ai-shaped-readiness-advisor/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill ai-shaped-readiness-advisor -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --path skills/ai-shaped-readiness-advisor
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/ai-shaped-readiness-advisor/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill ai-shaped-readiness-advisor -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills/tree/HEAD/skills/ai-shaped-readiness-advisor/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Tell apart automating tasks from redesigning the process
- Spot the weakest competency before the next quarter's planning
- Explain AI-first versus AI-shaped to the team
- Decide which capability to build first
- Check whether agents have a dependable context layer to work from

## Example prompts
- ai-shaped-readiness-advisor: small PM team, AI drafts summaries and PRD text, nothing else has changed
- Score us across the five competencies and name the next one to build
- Check whether we're automating tasks or actually reshaping how the team works
