## What it does

This skill walks through building coordinated multi-agent systems in TypeScript with LangChain. It ships a base `Agent` class with message history and tool calls, a set of specialist agents (researcher, writer, reviewer, planner), and two orchestrators: a sequential one and a supervisor-driven one.

The workflow runs in stages: define the agents, plan how they coordinate, implement handoffs, add shared memory, then watch execution. Agents signal each other through markers in their replies, such as `[TASK_COMPLETE]` or `[HANDOFF:agent_name]`, and the planner returns a plan as JSON.

The code imports `@langchain/openai` and `@langchain/core/messages`, so you need an OpenAI key and the LangChain packages installed. The supervisor caps its loop at `maxIterations = 10`, which is worth checking if your chain of steps tends to run long.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill ai-agent-orchestrator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/ai-agent-orchestrator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/ai-agent-orchestrator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill ai-agent-orchestrator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/ai-agent-orchestrator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill ai-agent-orchestrator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/ai-agent-orchestrator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install patricio0312rev/skills ai-agent-orchestrator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/ai-agent-orchestrator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill ai-agent-orchestrator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/patricio0312rev/skills --path ai-engineering/ai-agent-orchestrator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/ai-agent-orchestrator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill ai-agent-orchestrator -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/patricio0312rev/skills/tree/HEAD/ai-engineering/ai-agent-orchestrator/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- split a large task into subtasks and route them to different agents
- pass one agent's output into the next agent's input
- keep shared context alive across workflow steps
- let a supervisor pick which agent runs next
- see where a pipeline stalls during execution

## Example prompts
- build a multi-agent system with a researcher, writer and reviewer in sequence
- add a supervisor that picks the next agent for the task
- give the agents shared memory so they see each other's results

# AI Agent Orchestrator

Build coordinated multi-agent systems for complex task automation.

## Core Workflow

1. **Define agents**: Create specialized agents
2. **Design workflow**: Plan agent coordination
3. **Implement handoffs**: Agent-to-agent communication
4. **Add shared memory**: Persistent context
5. **Create supervisor**: Orchestrate execution
6. **Monitor execution**: Track agent activities

## Agent Architecture

### Agent Definition

```typescript
// agents/base.ts
import { ChatOpenAI } from '@langchain/openai';
import { SystemMessage, HumanMessage, AIMessage } from '@langchain/core/messages';
export interface AgentConfig {
  name: string;
  role: string;
  tools?: Tool[];
  model?: string;
}
export interface AgentResponse {
  content: string;
  toolCalls?: ToolCall[];
  nextAgent?: string;
  completed?: boolean;
}
export class Agent {
  private model: ChatOpenAI;
  private config: AgentConfig;
  private messageHistory: BaseMessage[] = [];
  constructor(config: AgentConfig) {
    this.config = config;
    this.model = new ChatOpenAI({
      modelName: config.model || 'gpt-4-turbo-preview',
      temperature: 0.7,
    });
  }
  async execute(input: string, context?: Record<string, any>): Promise<AgentResponse> {
    const systemMessage = new SystemMessage(
      this.buildSystemPrompt(context)
    );
    const messages = [
      systemMessage,
      ...this.messageHistory,
      new HumanMessage(input),
    ];
    const response = await this.model.invoke(messages, {
      tools: this.config.tools,
    });
    this.messageHistory.push(new HumanMessage(input));
    this.messageHistory.push(new AIMessage(response.content as string));
    return this.parseResponse(response);
  }
  private buildSystemPrompt(context?: Record<string, any>): string {
    let prompt = this.config.systemPrompt;
    if (context) {
      prompt += `\n\nContext:\n${JSON.stringify(context, null, 2)}`;
    }
    return prompt;
  }
  private parseResponse(response: any): AgentResponse {
    // Parse tool calls and determine next actions
    return {
      content: response.content as string,
      toolCalls: response.tool_calls,
      completed: response.content?.includes('[TASK_COMPLETE]'),
    };
  }
  clearHistory() {
    this.messageHistory = [];
  }
}
```

### Specialized Agents

```typescript
// agents/specialists.ts
import { Agent, AgentConfig } from './base';
export const ResearchAgent = new Agent({
  name: 'researcher',
  role: 'Research Specialist',
