## What it does

The skill computes several metrics: mention velocity for a token, sentiment polarity, the Fear & Greed index, and social volume across platforms. It also reads on-chain proxies — funding rates, long/short ratio, exchange flows. Those feed a composite score from -100 to +100.

Python functions ship with it. `score_text` rates a piece of text against curated bullish and bearish word lists without calling an LLM. `composite_sentiment` blends the signals with configurable weights. `influencer_signal` looks for activity from large accounts around a token. Reference files cover the data sources — Twitter/X, Reddit, Telegram, Discord, NewsAPI, CoinGecko, Alternative.me — with API details and rate limits.

Twitter/X access runs on paid API tiers, so that source needs a key before it returns anything. The author's guidance is to watch the extremes: a composite between -30 and +30 carries little signal, while readings past -70 or +70 are where reversals tend to show up.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills --skill sentiment-analysis -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/sentiment-analysis/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/sentiment-analysis/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills --skill sentiment-analysis -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/sentiment-analysis/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills --skill sentiment-analysis -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/sentiment-analysis/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills sentiment-analysis
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/sentiment-analysis/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills --skill sentiment-analysis -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills --path skills/sentiment-analysis
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/sentiment-analysis/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills --skill sentiment-analysis -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/agiprolabs/claude-trading-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/sentiment-analysis/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- gauge crowd sentiment before entering a position
- spot euphoria or panic at the peak
- catch a rise in token mentions before the chart moves
- track influencer activity around a specific token
- combine social, index and funding data into one sentiment score

## Example prompts
- score market sentiment for BTC over the last 24 hours
- check mention velocity for this token against its baseline
- build a composite sentiment score from social polarity and funding rates

# Sentiment Analysis

Extract and quantify market sentiment from social media, news feeds, and on-chain
data to identify crowd positioning and potential contrarian opportunities.

## When to Use This Skill

- Gauge crowd sentiment before entering or exiting a position
- Detect euphoria/panic extremes that precede reversals
- Monitor social mention velocity for early trend detection
- Track influencer activity around specific tokens
- Build composite sentiment scores for systematic strategies

## Core Concepts

### Sentiment Data Sources

| Source | Data Type | Access |
|--------|-----------|--------|
| Twitter/X | Post text, engagement, follower counts | API (paid tiers) |
| Reddit | Subreddit posts, comments, upvotes | Reddit API |
| Telegram | Channel messages, member counts | Bot API or scraping |
| Discord | Server activity, message volume | Bot integration |
| News | Headlines, article text | NewsAPI, RSS feeds |
| CoinGecko | Community stats, developer activity | Free API |
| Alternative.me | Fear & Greed Index | Free API |
| On-chain | Funding rates, exchange flows | Exchange APIs |

See `references/data_sources.md` for complete API details, rate limits, and access
patterns for each source.

### Sentiment Metrics

**Mention Velocity** — Rate of token mentions over time:

```python
mention_velocity = mentions_last_hour / baseline_hourly_mentions
# > 3.0 = trending, > 10.0 = viral
```

**Sentiment Polarity** — Positive vs negative tone:

```python
polarity = (positive_count - negative_count) / total_count
# Range: -1.0 (all negative) to +1.0 (all positive)
```

**Fear & Greed Index** — Composite market mood (0-100):

| Range | Label | Typical Signal |
|-------|-------|----------------|
| 0-24 | Extreme Fear | Potential accumulation zone |
| 25-44 | Fear | Below-average sentiment |
| 45-55 | Neutral | No strong directional bias |
| 56-74 | Greed | Above-average sentiment |
| 75-100 | Extreme Greed | Potential distribution zone |

**Social Volume** — Total mentions across platforms:

```python
social_volume_z = (current_volume - mean_30d) / std_30d
# z > 2.0 suggests unusual activity
```

### On-Chain Sentiment Proxies

On-chain data reveals what participants are doing, not just saying:

**Funding Rates** — Perpetual futures cost of carry:

```python
# Positive funding = longs pay shorts (bullish crowding)
