## What it does

This skill guides Claude Code through LlamaIndex workflows. It covers ingesting data from directories or GitHub repositories and structuring content into vector indices. Indices can be saved directly to disk.

The patterns detail streaming query engines and metadata filters. Document search engines become agent tools. This happens via `FunctionAgent` and `QueryEngineTool` integrations.

Your setup requires `llama-index`, `openai`, and `anthropic`. Install them beforehand with pip. Without them, the generated Python scripts will break at runtime.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill ai-research/agents-llamaindex
```

2. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add davila7/claude-code-templates --skill agents-llamaindex -a claude-code
```

3. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/agents-llamaindex/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/agents-llamaindex/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/agents-llamaindex/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/agents-llamaindex/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install davila7/claude-code-templates agents-llamaindex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/agents-llamaindex/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates --path cli-tool/components/skills/ai-research/agents-llamaindex
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/agents-llamaindex/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/skills/ai-research/agents-llamaindex

## When to use it
- build retrieval-augmented generation pipelines over private data
- ingest documents from local directories or GitHub repositories
- persist and reload vector indices from storage
- attach document query engines as agent tools

## Example prompts
- Configure a VectorStoreIndex using SimpleDirectoryReader and set up a streaming query engine.
- Create a FunctionAgent in LlamaIndex that combines a QueryEngineTool with custom Python functions.
- Show how to ingest a GitHub repository with GithubRepositoryReader and apply metadata filters.
