## What it does

The skill hands your coding agent a reference for Agentica SDK v0.3.1 so it writes Python against the real API instead of guessing. The shortest path is the `@agentic()` decorator on an async function: leave the body as an ellipsis and the model fills in the computation. When you need more control, `spawn()` builds an agent with a premise, its own tools and a chosen model.

Covered inside: return types, the difference between premise and system, passing tools through scope, persistence across calls, `MaxTokens` limits and token usage tracking. Streaming goes through `StreamLogger`. Logging defaults to stdout plus `./logs/agent-<id>.log`, and the listeners live in `agentica.logging.agent_listener` — that import path matters, since they are not exported from `agentica.logging`.

MCP support takes a config file such as `mcp_config.json` listing servers, passed via `mcp=`. Models are strings like `openai:gpt-4.1` or `anthropic:claude-sonnet-4.5`, and OpenRouter slugs work too. Reach for the synchronous `Agent()` where `await` is not available, for instance inside `__init__`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill agentica-sdk -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/agentica-sdk/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/agentica-sdk/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill agentica-sdk -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/agentica-sdk/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill agentica-sdk -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/agentica-sdk/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 agentica-sdk
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/agentica-sdk/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill agentica-sdk -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --path .claude/skills/agentica-sdk
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/agentica-sdk/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill agentica-sdk -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- write an async Python agent from scratch
- add a model call to an existing function
- keep conversation history across calls
- attach MCP servers to an agent
- cap token spend per call and per round

## Example prompts
- Write an Agentica agent: an @agentic function returning dict[str, int]
- Build an agent with spawn(), premise "Data analyzer" and my analyze function in scope
- Wire the MCP servers from mcp_config.json into an agent and call one of its tools

# Agentica SDK Reference (v0.3.1)

Build AI agents in Python using the Agentica framework. Agents can implement functions, maintain state, use tools, and coordinate with each other.

## When to Use

Use this skill when:
- Building new Python agents
- Adding agentic capabilities to existing code
- Integrating MCP tools with agents
- Implementing multi-agent orchestration
- Debugging agent behavior

## Quick Start

### Agentic Function (simplest)

```python
from agentica import agentic
@agentic()
async def add(a: int, b: int) -> int:
    """Returns the sum of a and b"""
    ...
result = await add(1, 2)  # Agent computes: 3
```

### Spawned Agent (more control)

```python
from agentica import spawn
agent = await spawn(premise="You are a truth-teller.")
result: bool = await agent.call(bool, "The Earth is flat")
# Returns: False
```

## Core Patterns

### Return Types

```python
# String (default)
result = await agent.call("What is 2+2?")
# Typed output
result: int = await agent.call(int, "What is 2+2?")
result: dict[str, int] = await agent.call(dict[str, int], "Count items")
# Side-effects only
await agent.call(None, "Send message to John")
```

### Premise vs System Prompt

```python
# Premise: adds to default system prompt
agent = await spawn(premise="You are a math expert.")
# System: full control (replaces default)
agent = await spawn(system="You are a JSON-only responder.")
```

### Passing Tools (Scope)

```python
from agentica import agentic, spawn
# In decorator
@agentic(scope={'web_search': web_search_fn})
async def researcher(query: str) -> str:
    """Research a topic."""
    ...
# In spawn
agent = await spawn(
    premise="Data analyzer",
    scope={"analyze": custom_analyzer}
)
# Per-call scope
result = await agent.call(
    dict[str, int],
    "Analyze the dataset",
    dataset=data,           # Available as 'dataset'
    analyzer=custom_fn      # Available as 'analyzer'
)
```

### SDK Integration Pattern

```python
from slack_sdk import WebClient
slack = WebClient(token=SLACK_TOKEN)
# Extract specific methods
@agentic(scope={
    'list_users': slack.users_list,
    'send_message': slack.chat_postMessage
})
async def team_notifier(message: str) -> None:
    """Send team notifications."""
    ...
```

## Agent Instantiation

### spawn() - Async (most cases)

```python
agent = await spawn(premise="Helpful assistant")
```

### Agent() - Sync (for `__init__`)

```python
from agentica.agent import Agent
class CustomAgent:
````
