# agent-fs

This skill wires your agent into agent-fs, a filesystem with versioning plus full-text and semantic search. Useful when files must survive between agent sessions.

## What it does

agent-fs is a filesystem built for agents. Files live in drives inside orgs, every write keeps version history, and search covers both exact text (FTS5) and meaning. The CLI prints JSON, so an agent can parse results without scraping prose. The skill covers the whole surface: writing, reading, searching, reverting, share links, members, API keys.

File bytes sit in a pluggable storage backend. The default is S3 or a local MinIO, and that path needs Docker: `agent-fs onboard -y`. There is a way around both — `agent-fs onboard --filesystem` keeps bytes on disk, `~/.agent-fs/storage` by default. Both backends are full-tier, so `revert` and historical `diff` work. Here is the trap: on a backend without object versioning, `revert` and historical `diff` fail with `UNSUPPORTED_OPERATION` (HTTP 422), while current content, listing, comments and search keep working.

For your own S3 (AWS, R2, Tigris), onboarding takes `--s3-endpoint`, `--s3-bucket`, `--s3-access-key` and `--s3-secret-key`. You do not have to start the daemon — the CLI detects whether it runs and falls back to embedded mode. If a write lands somewhere unexpected, run `agent-fs org current` and `agent-fs drive current`: the `source` field shows where the active org and drive came from.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add desplega-ai/agent-fs --skill agent-fs -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/agent-fs/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/agent-fs/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add desplega-ai/agent-fs --skill agent-fs -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/agent-fs/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add desplega-ai/agent-fs --skill agent-fs -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/agent-fs/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install desplega-ai/agent-fs agent-fs
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/agent-fs/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add desplega-ai/agent-fs --skill agent-fs -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/desplega-ai/agent-fs --path skills/agent-fs
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/agent-fs/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add desplega-ai/agent-fs --skill agent-fs -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/desplega-ai/agent-fs/tree/HEAD/skills/agent-fs/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- persist a document so the agent finds it next session
- locate a file by name or by meaning
- revert a file and inspect what changed between versions
- hand someone a time-limited link and revoke it later
- invite members to a drive and set their roles

## Example prompts
- save this report to agent-fs as docs/q3.md
- find the onboarding file in agent-fs and show its version history
- create a public link for the shared folder and invite a new member

# agent-fs CLI

agent-fs is an agent-first filesystem with full versioning, full-text search (FTS5), and semantic search. It provides a CLI that outputs JSON, making it ideal for agent workflows. Files are organized in drives within orgs.

## Storage Backends

agent-fs stores file bytes in a pluggable storage backend. The durable value — version history, comments, and search — lives in SQLite and works identically on every backend.
