## What it does

The skill runs from approval to first conversion. It starts with an interview: B2B or B2C, what counts as activation and inside what window, commission model, cookie window, payout threshold and hold period, which affiliate archetypes the intake actually contains, who sends the touches, and how many manager hours exist per week. Answers feed a touch plan: timing, channel, one action per touch.

Then comes day-0 readiness: whether links or codes are provisioned at approval, whether tracking records the activation event, and whether tax forms and payout method are wired as a payout gate. Gaps get fixed before a single touch is mapped. The intake is then segmented twice, by archetype and by touch tier. Tiers are ranked on efficiency, value, recurring effort, and one-off build before the first send.

Only a small minority of approved affiliates ever activate, so the sequence exists to compress time-to-first-conversion while intent is still warm. Day offsets are a skeleton, not a standard: behavior triggers such as first click or no-click-by-day-N override the calendar. The skill suggests starting with 4-6 touches over 10-14 days, and every turn re-sorts against those triggers. When no named affiliate manager exists, or approvals run past roughly a hundred a month, high-touch is deleted from the menu rather than demoted. A tier nobody can staff is absent, not slow.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/partnerships-skills --skill affiliate-onboarding-sequence -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/affiliate-onboarding-sequence/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/affiliate-onboarding-sequence/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/partnerships-skills --skill affiliate-onboarding-sequence -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/affiliate-onboarding-sequence/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/partnerships-skills --skill affiliate-onboarding-sequence -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/affiliate-onboarding-sequence/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mbfinotti/partnerships-skills affiliate-onboarding-sequence
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**

## When to use it
- write the welcome series for affiliates just approved
- diagnose why approved affiliates never send a click
- fix the activation definition and its measurement window before any send
- assemble the asset kit: tracking links, banners, swipe copy, one-sheets
- pick a touch tier that fits the manager hours you actually have

## Example prompts
- Design our affiliate onboarding sequence for the partners we just approved
- Our approved affiliates never send a click after the welcome email — figure out why
- What should new partners get in their first 30 days?

# Affiliate Onboarding Sequence

Design the sequence that moves a newly approved affiliate to their first tracked conversion. Most programs activate only a small minority of approved affiliates - practitioner estimates cluster around 5-20%, a convergent range rather than a controlled measurement - so the sequence's whole job is to compress time-to-first-conversion while intent is still warm.

Two commitments run through everything below:

- **Day offsets are a starting skeleton, not a standard.** Documented practitioner consensus is 4-6 touches over 10-14 days, but every sourced practitioner favors behavior triggers - first click, first sale, no-click-by-day-N - layered on top of, and overriding, the calendar.
- **An affiliate who cannot get a working link cannot activate.** Provisioning and tracking readiness is the pre-condition of the sequence, never a touch inside it.

Two entry paths, both starting with the Interview:

- Build from scratch - "write the welcome emails for affiliates we just approved", "design our affiliate onboarding sequence", "what should new partners get in their first 30 days?" - run the full Workflow.
