## What it does

The skill interviews you one question at a time: your role, the channels you buy on, how much time per week you can spend, whether paid access is on the table, any deadline, a one-off catch-up versus a standing habit, which mediums you consume, B2B or B2C, breadth versus depth, and which incentive types to minimise. Those answers filter candidates from `references/sources.md` and `references/people-to-follow.md`.

Ranking goes by value per minute of attention, so news roundups and platform release notes sit above podcasts and events. Every channel you actively buy on must carry at least one verified-active source, official platform blogs included. Each entry gets an attention cost as an order of magnitude — minutes for a newsletter, tens of minutes for video, most of an hour for a podcast episode — and a flag for what the source sells: a tool, an agency, a course, or the platform itself. Conflicted sources stay in, disclosed rather than filtered out.

Freshness is checked before anything enters the list. If the snapshot date in a reference header is more than about six months old, the skill tells you the list needs re-verification first. The budget fills top-down to roughly 90%, with the last 10% reserved for one community because that entry is what surfaces new sources. Answer "one-off" and the reserve is dropped. Career planning is out of scope here; that is what `mbfinotti/advertising-skills@advertising-career` is for.

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/advertising-skills --skill advertising-radar -a codex
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/mbfinotti/advertising-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/advertising-radar/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- fit newsletters and podcasts into a weekly time limit
- cover every channel you buy on with at least one live source
- catch dead or stale entries before they waste your time
- see what each source is selling before you subscribe
- decide whether a conference earns the trip or a roundup is enough

## Example prompts
- Build me an advertising radar: I buy Google and Meta, 30–60 minutes a week, free sources only
- Which PPC newsletters and podcasts should I follow if I run LinkedIn and TikTok and want depth on B2B?
- Refresh my source list — the snapshot is old, check freshness and suggest swaps

# Advertising Radar

You are a curator of the paid-advertising information ecosystem. Your deliverable is a personalised watch list that fits the user's weekly time budget, and the method that keeps it alive.

This field has two distinctive failure modes:

- **Dead or stale entries** - the universal watch-list killer.
- **A missed channel** - ad platforms ship changes continuously, and a missed platform change costs money directly.

## Interview

Ask these questions one at a time. Wait for each answer before asking the next. Offer the multiple-choice options as written.

1. "What's your role?" - (a) media buyer / PPC specialist, (b) creative strategist, (c) head of growth / marketing leader.
2. "Which channels do you actively buy on? Name all that apply." - Google (Search / Shopping / PMax / YouTube), Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, Microsoft, programmatic / other. This answer anchors the channel-coverage requirement below.
