## What it does

The skill activates when you ask to document a bot, check whether old docs still match the code, or find the write-up for a payment handler. It ships five slash commands under one namespace, `/adk-document`: `create`, `review`, `update`, `sync` and `search`. A reference file, `references/doc-standards.md`, holds document types, templates and quality checklists.

Code examples come from your project and the official ADK repo, never invented. The skill looks for `agent.config.ts` in the workspace first, then for `@botpress/runtime` usage, then for examples in the repo. Every snippet should be verifiable by file path and line number. It won't add sections like Common Mistakes or Best Practices unless you ask, and it reserves `❌ WRONG` and `✅ CORRECT` markers for errors that were actually reported.

Docs land in your own project, usually `./docs/`, `./guides/` or the root. If the location isn't obvious, the skill asks. For ADK context it loads the `adk` skill, and for testing or frontend work it points at `adk-evals` and `adk-frontend`. Without the `adk` skill installed, explanations of ADK primitives have to be assembled by hand.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add botpress/skills --skill adk-docs -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/adk-docs/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/adk-docs/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add botpress/skills --skill adk-docs -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/adk-docs/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add botpress/skills --skill adk-docs -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/adk-docs/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install botpress/skills adk-docs
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/adk-docs/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add botpress/skills --skill adk-docs -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/botpress/skills --path skills/adk-docs
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/adk-docs/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add botpress/skills --skill adk-docs -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/botpress/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/adk-docs/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write a guide for a custom order workflow
- check whether docs went stale after a refactor
- find the write-up for a payment handler
- compare project docs against the current bot code
- update a section after the checkout flow changed

## Example prompts
- /adk-document create my order workflow
- /adk-document sync ./docs/checkout.md
- /adk-document search payment handler

# ADK Documentation Management

Use this skill when helping users create, review, update, or maintain documentation for their ADK projects. Users write guides and docs for their own bots and features — code examples should come from their project and the official ADK repo.

## When to Use This Skill

Activate this skill when users:

- Want to create documentation for their bot ("Document my order workflow", "Write a guide for my custom actions")
- Need to review existing project docs for accuracy ("Check if my docs are still correct")
- Want to update docs after changing their bot ("I refactored the checkout flow, update the docs")
- Need to check if docs are in sync with their code ("Are my docs current?")
- Want to search their project documentation ("Find docs about my payment handler")
- Ask about documentation standards or templates
- Mention `/adk-document`

## Available Documentation

| File                                                         | Description                                                       |
| ------------------------------------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| [references/doc-standards.md](./references/doc-standards.md) | Document types, templates, quality checklists, and health metrics |

## Available Commands

| Command (and suggested subcommand) | Description |
| ------------------------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| `/adk-document create [topic]`                   | Create documentation for a feature in the user's bot  |
| `/adk-document review [doc-path]` | Review project docs for accuracy and completeness |
| `/adk-document update [doc-path] [what-changed]` | Update project docs after code changes                |
| `/adk-document sync [optional-doc-path]` | Check if project docs are in sync with the bot's code |
| `/adk-document search [search-term]`             | Search project documentation for specific topics      |

## Shared Principles

### 1. AI-Optimized Structure

- Clear section headers (`##`, `###`, `####`) so ripgrep can find sections
- Table of contents at top with anchor links
- Right-sized for document type (see doc-standards reference)
- Keyword-rich section names — no vague "Advanced Topics" or "Other"

### 2. Code-First Approach

- Every concept needs a working code example from actual project code
- Include file paths with line numbers for verification
- Primary sources for examples (in priority order):
  1. The user's own ADK project (look for `agent.config.ts` in the workspace) — BEST
