## What it does

This skill provides reference docs for the local dashboard served during `adk dev` on port `3001`. It covers major navigation sections, including the Chat view, RAG search under Test, knowledge tables, and runtime traces in Observe.

The reference details how Agent Steps break down into turns and iterations, highlighting tool calls and state mutations. It also explains the Agent Selector dropdown for running multiple local bots or connecting to Botpress Cloud.

Without a running Botpress ADK environment, this skill has zero practical use. The guides strictly target the local web UI, Agent(0) task lists, and CLI controls like `adk ps` or `adk kill`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add botpress/skills --skill adk-dev-console -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/adk-dev-console/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/adk-dev-console/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add botpress/skills --skill adk-dev-console -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/adk-dev-console/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add botpress/skills --skill adk-dev-console -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/adk-dev-console/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install botpress/skills adk-dev-console
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/adk-dev-console/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add botpress/skills --skill adk-dev-console -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/botpress/skills --path skills/adk-dev-console
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/adk-dev-console/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add botpress/skills --skill adk-dev-console -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/botpress/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/adk-dev-console/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- inspect Agent Steps hierarchy and execution errors in the Chat tab
- locate RAG search tools and automated evaluation pages
- switch between active local bots and Botpress Cloud targets
- read task states inside the Agent(0) dock

## Example prompts
- What do the colors in the Agent Steps panel indicate?
- How do I switch to a deployed Cloud bot in the dashboard?
- Where can I test knowledge search queries in Dev Console?

# ADK Dev Console

The Dev Console is a local app served at port `3001` (by default, but can be customized) during `adk dev`. It gives developers real-time visibility into their agent's behavior — conversations, execution traces, data, integrations, and configuration.

The Dev Console is a **singleton shared dashboard**: one UI server per user, with multiple `adk dev` agents registering and deregistering dynamically. Developers can switch between running agents in the sidebar, toggle between dev and prod targets, and connect to deployed Cloud bots — all from the same browser tab.

## When to Use This Skill

Activate when users ask about:

- **UI concepts** — "What are Agent Steps?", "What does the Observe tab show?", "What is a turn?", "What is the component registry?", "What is the Agent Map?"
- **Agent(0) UI** — "What are the Tasks under Agent(0)?", "Where did the todo list come from?", "Why is Agent(0) showing task progress?"
- **Dev Console navigation** — "What tabs are available?", "Where do I find traces?", "How do I test RAG?"
- **Reading execution data** — "What do the steps mean?", "Why is my step red?", "What's the cost shown?"
- **Component registry** — "Where do I find custom components?", "How do I install a component?", "What components are available?"
- **Multi-agent dashboard** — "How do I switch between agents?", "How do I run multiple agents?", "What does the agent selector show?", "How do I see which agents are running?"
- **Console modes and targets** — "What's the difference between dev and prod?", "How do I connect to a Cloud bot?", "What is Cloud Dev Console?"
- **Agent management CLI** — "How do I list running agents?", "How do I stop an agent?", "What does `adk ps` show?", "How do I open the dashboard?"
- **Specific pages** — "How do I use the evals page?", "Where do I configure integrations?", "How do I search knowledge?"
- **Comparing UI vs CLI** — "Should I use the Dev Console or CLI for debugging?"
- Mentions of `localhost:3001`, "dev console", "Dev Console", "component registry", "agent selector", "agent picker", "agent map", "Cloud Dev Console", or specific tab names (Chat, Build, Components, Data, Test, Observe, Config)
