## What it does

This skill takes a single-player browser game and bolts multiplayer onto it, either live or turn-based. The backend is a PartyKit room on Cloudflare Durable Objects, one object per room. The client talks to it through `NetworkManager`, which listens on the EventBus, so scenes and systems stay unaware of the network.

Edits are additive. New blocks go into `EventBus.js`, `GameState.js`, `Constants.js`, `main.js` and `render_game_to_text()` under a `// === Multiplayer ===` banner; nothing existing gets renamed or dropped. When the server cannot be reached, `NetworkManager` swallows the failure and the game keeps running solo — offline play is the default state.

Your game needs to follow the game-creator layout already: `src/core/EventBus.js`, `src/core/GameState.js`, `src/core/Constants.js` and `window.render_game_to_text()` in `src/main.js`. Node.js 18+ and a Cloudflare account are required for `npx partykit deploy`; the free tier covers prototyping. Pass `--mode=realtime` (the default) or `--mode=turn-based` to pick the server template. Without the flag the skill reads the game's events: continuous movement means realtime, discrete moves mean turn-based.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill add-multiplayer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/add-multiplayer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/add-multiplayer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill add-multiplayer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/add-multiplayer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill add-multiplayer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/add-multiplayer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install PlayableIntelligence/game-creator add-multiplayer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/add-multiplayer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill add-multiplayer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --path skills/add-multiplayer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/add-multiplayer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill add-multiplayer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/PlayableIntelligence/game-creator/tree/HEAD/skills/add-multiplayer/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- add online play to a finished single-player game
- stand up a room server without rewriting game logic
- sync player positions across clients
- enforce turn order on the server for card and board games
- keep solo mode alive when the server is down

## Example prompts
- Add multiplayer to the game in this folder
- Make this game multiplayer, turn-based mode
- Scaffold netcode for the project in `./my-game`

# Add Multiplayer (PartyKit / Cloudflare Durable Objects)

Add real-time or turn-based multiplayer to an existing single-player browser game. This skill scaffolds:

1. A **PartyKit server** (one Durable Object per room) deployed to Cloudflare's edge.
2. A **client `NetworkManager`** wired through EventBus that mirrors the existing `playfun.js` external-service pattern.
3. **Additive edits** to `EventBus`, `GameState`, `Constants`, and `render_game_to_text()` — single-player gameplay must remain identical when the server is unreachable.

The default state is "single-player works." If the WebSocket connection fails, NetworkManager swallows the error and the game runs locally as before. When connected, remote players appear via `network:player-joined` and synchronize via `network:state-received`.
