## What it does

The skill classifies the requested change before editing the project: UI framework, styling system, deployment adapter, content tool, or utility. It uses `astro add` for supported official integrations; community packages are added with the project package manager and wired into `astro.config.*`.

It checks the integration list, `output`, stylesheet imports, environment variables, config files, and deployment settings. For React, Vue, and similar frameworks, it keeps static markup in `.astro` where possible and selects a suitable hydration directive such as `client:visible` or `client:idle`.

The final pass can run `astro check`, `astro build`, or the repository’s tests and look for hydration mismatches. With Astro 6, Node 22.12.0 or newer is required before treating integration failures as application bugs.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add incluud/astro-agent-skills --skill add-integration -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/add-integration/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/add-integration/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add incluud/astro-agent-skills --skill add-integration -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/add-integration/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add incluud/astro-agent-skills --skill add-integration -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/add-integration/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install incluud/astro-agent-skills add-integration
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/add-integration/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add incluud/astro-agent-skills --skill add-integration -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/incluud/astro-agent-skills --path skills/add-integration
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/add-integration/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add incluud/astro-agent-skills --skill add-integration -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/incluud/astro-agent-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/add-integration/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- add an official Astro integration
- connect React, Vue, or Svelte
- configure a Netlify, Vercel, Cloudflare, or Node adapter
- wire Tailwind styles into the project
- check hydration and build issues after setup

## Example prompts
- Add React to this Astro project and configure it through the official Astro path.
- Set up Tailwind, import the shared stylesheet, and verify the Astro configuration.
- Configure the Vercel adapter in `astro.config.*` and run the relevant project checks.

# Add Astro Integration

Use this skill when adding official or community integrations to an Astro project, including UI frameworks, styling tools, adapters, content tooling, and utilities.

If `astro-best-practices` is available, apply it alongside this skill for performance, accessibility, and hydration defaults.

## Workflow

### 1. Classify the integration

Identify what is being added before changing anything:

- UI framework: React, Vue, Svelte, Preact, Solid
- Styling: Tailwind, UnoCSS, Sass, CSS tooling
- Deployment adapter: Netlify, Vercel, Cloudflare, Node
- Content tooling: MDX, Markdoc, CMS integrations
- Utilities: sitemap, Partytown, analytics, database helpers

This determines whether the change affects rendering mode, hydration, config shape, or build output.

### 2. Prefer the official Astro path

Use `astro add` when an official integration supports it:

```bash
npx astro add react
npx astro add tailwind
npx astro add netlify
```

If the integration is community-maintained, install it with the project package manager and wire it into `astro.config.*` manually.

Before finalizing, verify the current setup in the official Astro docs or the integration README, especially when Astro or the integration recently changed versions.

If the project is also upgrading Astro itself, upgrade Astro and official integrations together. For Astro 6, confirm the environment is running Node 22.12.0 or newer before treating integration issues as application bugs.

### 3. Configure Astro deliberately

When editing `astro.config.*`:

- add integrations explicitly and keep the array readable
- set `output` only when the adapter or runtime requires it
- avoid enabling server output unless the feature actually needs request-time work
- preserve existing config ordering unless the integration docs require a specific sequence

Example:

```ts
import { defineConfig } from 'astro/config'
import react from '@astrojs/react'
export default defineConfig({
  integrations: [react()],
})
```

### 4. Handle framework components with restraint

When adding React, Vue, or another UI framework:

- prefer `.astro` for static content
- keep framework components for interactive islands
- choose the lightest client directive that satisfies the UX

Hydration guidance:

- `client:visible` for below-the-fold or deferred UI
- `client:idle` for non-critical enhancements
- `client:load` only for immediately interactive UI
- `client:only` only when skipping server rendering is intentional

### 5. Finish the surrounding setup

Do not stop at package installation. Check for:

- stylesheet imports or entrypoints
- environment variables
- config files such as `tailwind.config.*`
- adapter-specific output requirements
