# adapting-formats

Rebuilds an existing image ad at other aspect ratios while keeping the product, the wording and the look. Handy when one creative has to run in several sizes.

## What it does

The skill takes an image ad you already have and produces versions for the shapes it still needs. Nothing gets cropped: each shape is composed again with the original passed in as a reference, so the product, the palette and the drawn copy stay recognisable. Background is extended into the new area following the original light and perspective, and the headline and call to action are kept clear of whatever buttons or captions the platform overlays.

It runs in stages. First it asks for the ad itself — file or URL, at the largest version available — and for the ratios, or for a channel, in which case the ratios come from `references/ratios-and-safe-zones.md`. Then `image_analysis` runs once and separates the ad into parts: the product, every drawn string word for word, the background, the look, the layout. After that it reads `references/recomposing.md` and writes a plan per shape — what moves, what fills the opened space, whether the copy still fits. You see that plan before anything is generated, since every call after it costs money.

One model covers all the shapes, otherwise the set reads as separate campaigns. `gpt-image-2` is the usual pick because it holds text well in designed, headline-heavy layouts; `nano-banana-pro` suits photoreal ads with lighter copy, and `seedream-5` is there for photoreal work other models refuse or keep failing. Check `list_image_models` for what is actually available and for each model's `reference_images` limit.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add SupercmoHQ/superCMO-skills --skill adapting-formats -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/adapting-formats/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/adapting-formats/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add SupercmoHQ/superCMO-skills --skill adapting-formats -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/adapting-formats/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add SupercmoHQ/superCMO-skills --skill adapting-formats -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/adapting-formats/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install SupercmoHQ/superCMO-skills adapting-formats
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/adapting-formats/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

gemini skills install https://github.com/SupercmoHQ/superCMO-skills --path skills/adapting-formats
```
### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)
**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/adapting-formats/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works
### OpenCode
**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add SupercmoHQ/superCMO-skills --skill adapting-formats -a opencode
```
### Claude.ai
## When to use it
- rebuild a square creative as `4:5` and `9:16` for a feed
- extend the background for a vertical shape without cutting the product
- keep the headline and call to action out of the platform's button zone
- get one consistent set of shapes instead of three unrelated banners
- find out in advance which shape cannot carry dense copy
## Example prompts
- Here is the ad `ad.png` — make `4:5` and `9:16` versions
- I need every Meta size from this banner
- Recompose this creative as a vertical, keep the product and the copy
# Resizing an ad
Take an image ad that already exists and produce it in the other shapes it has to run in.
**Each shape is regenerated, not cropped.** A crop cuts the headline in half and pushes the product out
of frame; the ad is rebuilt for the new proportions with the original passed in as a reference, so it
stays the same ad rather than becoming a different one.
## Workflow
### Step 1: Get the ad and the shapes
- **The ad** — the image file or URL, at the largest version the user has. Without it there is nothing
  to resize; ask for it and stop. Several ads at once is normal: each is read and planned separately,
  though they can all be generated in one call at the end.
- **The shapes** — the ratios, or the channel they run on. Where the user named a channel rather than
