## What it does

The skill targets WCAG 2.2 AA conformance. The automated half wraps `@axe-core/playwright` in a `checkAccessibility(page, testInfo, options)` helper that filters rules to the `wcag2a`, `wcag2aa`, `wcag21a`, `wcag21aa` and `wcag22aa` tags and asserts zero violations. A scan needs an expected URL and an app-owned readiness assertion first, because blank, error and redirected pages can pass axe. Full results JSON gets attached to the test, and a scan that evaluated no rules is rejected.

Automated tools catch 30-40% of issues. The rest is manual: tab order, visible focus, the skip link, Enter and Space on buttons, Escape closing modals, arrow keys inside tabs and menus. A table lists screen readers — VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS, TalkBack — with their OS and browser. For complex custom widgets the skill recommends a manual pass with real assistive tech rather than a DevTools extension alone.

Discovery questions cover the required conformance level, which laws apply (ADA, EAA/EN 301 549, Section 508, AODA), whether a VPAT is maintained, and what already runs in CI. Project context is read from `.agents/qa-project-context.md` when that file exists. One caveat worth knowing: axe ships no automated rule for 2.4.11 focus-not-obscured or 2.5.7 dragging movements, and covers 2.5.8 target-size only partially. A green axe run is not 2.2 AA conformance.

## Requirements
- Works with: Playwright

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill accessibility-testing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/accessibility-testing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/accessibility-testing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill accessibility-testing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/accessibility-testing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill accessibility-testing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/accessibility-testing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install petrkindlmann/qa-skills accessibility-testing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/accessibility-testing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill accessibility-testing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/petrkindlmann/qa-skills --path skills/accessibility-testing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/accessibility-testing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill accessibility-testing -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/petrkindlmann/qa-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/accessibility-testing/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- scan every key page and interactive state with axe-core
- check tab order and focus visibility on each element
- confirm modals close on Escape and return focus to the trigger
- map findings to ADA, EAA and Section 508 obligations
- catch accessibility regressions in CI on every PR

## Example prompts
- run the accessibility tests on the homepage and the checkout page
- audit keyboard navigation inside the filters modal
- add an axe-core scan to CI for every page in the list

  Test for WCAG 2.2 AA compliance with axe-core + Playwright, keyboard navigation audits,
  screen reader testing, ARIA pattern validation, and legal compliance mapping (ADA, EAA,

  "keyboard navigation," "ARIA," "ADA compliance."
  Not for: cookie-consent/GDPR compliance — use compliance-testing; pixel-diff visual

<objective>
Make an application usable by people who rely on keyboards and assistive technology, and prove
it with tests that run in CI. A button that passes `toBeVisible()` can still be unreachable by
keyboard; a page with zero axe violations can still be impossible to operate with a screen
reader. Automated tools catch 30-40% of accessibility issues — this skill covers the automated
scan plus the keyboard, screen reader, and ARIA-state testing that catch the other 60-70%.

## Discovery Questions

Check `.agents/qa-project-context.md` first — if it exists, use it as the foundation and skip
anything already answered.

**Requirements and compliance** (sets the target level and audit obligations)
- What WCAG conformance level is required — A, AA, or AAA? AA is the practical legal default.
- What laws apply — ADA, EAA/EN 301 549, Section 508, AODA? Each maps to a WCAG level.
- Is there a VPAT or accessibility statement to maintain, or contractual a11y clauses from enterprise/government customers?

**Current state** (tells you whether you're auditing or preventing regressions)
- Has an audit run before? What were the findings, and what's already in the backlog?
- Does the design system carry accessibility guidance and accessible components?

**Testing infrastructure** (determines what you can automate vs. must do by hand)
- Is automated a11y testing already in CI?
```
