# access-protected-vercel-deployment

A skill that tells your agent how to get past Vercel Authentication, SSO and Deployment Protection: vercel curl for HTTP, a short-lived OIDC token for browsers.

## What it does

Your curl call, Playwright script or agent browser hits a Vercel login page and comes back 401 or 403. The skill picks the right route instead of guessing. For HTTP work it swaps plain `curl` for `vercel curl` (`vc curl`), which takes native curl flags and authenticates through the Vercel credentials you already have. A path-only call targets the linked project's production deployment; pass a full URL when the exact deployment matters.

Browser automation gets a different route: the `x-vercel-trusted-oidc-idp-token` header carrying `VERCEL_OIDC_TOKEN`. That token is short-lived, and the skill is blunt about handling it — never print it, never paste it into source, never commit `.env.local`. `vc env run` injects the variables without exposing the value, and when the local CLI does not hand the token over, `vc env pull .env.local --yes` refreshes the credentials. Trusted Sources expects `x-vercel-trusted-oidc-idp-token`; `x-vercel-oidc-token` does something else entirely and is not a substitute here.

The access rules are where people get stuck. A local development token reaches Preview deployments of the same project by default, but not protected Production. When the response says `TRUSTED_SOURCES_ENVIRONMENT_MISMATCH`, the token itself is fine — its caller environment simply is not allowed into the target one. The fix lives in the project's Settings → Deployment Protection → Trusted Sources, where you allow the `development` → `production` pair.

## Requirements
- Works with: Playwright

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel/vercel-plugin --skill access-protected-vercel-deployment -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/access-protected-vercel-deployment/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/access-protected-vercel-deployment/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel/vercel-plugin --skill access-protected-vercel-deployment -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/access-protected-vercel-deployment/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel/vercel-plugin --skill access-protected-vercel-deployment -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/access-protected-vercel-deployment/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install vercel/vercel-plugin access-protected-vercel-deployment
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/access-protected-vercel-deployment/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel/vercel-plugin --skill access-protected-vercel-deployment -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/vercel/vercel-plugin --path skills/access-protected-vercel-deployment
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/access-protected-vercel-deployment/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel/vercel-plugin --skill access-protected-vercel-deployment -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/vercel/vercel-plugin/tree/HEAD/skills/access-protected-vercel-deployment/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- reach a protected preview from a script or agent
- run a health check against a protected deployment
- point browser automation at a URL behind Vercel SSO
- work out why TRUSTED_SOURCES_ENVIRONMENT_MISMATCH came back
- tell Vercel protection apart from the app's own auth

## Example prompts
- Fetch the protected preview at `my-app.vercel.app/api/health` and show me the response
- Open the protected production URL in agent-browser using the token from `VERCEL_OIDC_TOKEN`
- I got TRUSTED_SOURCES_ENVIRONMENT_MISMATCH — explain which environment pair to allow
