## What it does

ac-python gives an agent a shared set of Python 3.14 guidelines. It covers modern annotations, idiomatic code, import structure, naming, class design, and data models. It also points to patterns for pytest and project tooling such as uv, ruff, mypy or ty, and prek.

The skill is knowledge-only and works with a Python codebase without separate external tool requirements. Its reference material is split between style and typing, OOP and design, and testing and tooling. It can be used in Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, and OpenCode.

Do not use ac-python for Django-specific work: the description directs Django model and migration tasks to `ac-django`. That boundary matters when a project mixes ordinary Python modules with Django code.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add souliane/skills --skill ac-python -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/ac-python/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/ac-python/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add souliane/skills --skill ac-python -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/ac-python/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add souliane/skills --skill ac-python -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/ac-python/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install souliane/skills ac-python
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/ac-python/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add souliane/skills --skill ac-python -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/souliane/skills --path ac-python
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/ac-python/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add souliane/skills --skill ac-python -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/souliane/skills/tree/HEAD/ac-python/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write a CLI script that processes CSV files
- review a Python class for design issues
- set up pytest for a Python microservice
- add complete type annotations to a module
- design a validated Python data model

## Example prompts
- Write a Python CLI script that processes CSV files.
- Review this Python class for design problems and suggest changes.
- Set up pytest for this Python microservice.

# Python Bible (Python 3.14)

**Targets:** Python **3.14** · **Previous line:** Python **3.13** (trailing section) · **Tooling:** uv · ruff · mypy/ty · prek · pytest

## Version Policy

This skill documents **one** Python line: the current one. Keep it that way when
you update it.

- **Main path = the current feature release.** Today that is Python **3.14**. When
  3.15 ships, the main path moves to it in the same edit.
- **Unmarked prose means the current line, and there is no marker form.** Python
  ships features only in a feature release, and the main path always *is* the
  current feature release — so nothing in it can post-date the line, and a version
  suffix would have nothing to qualify. (This is where the sibling `ac-django`
  policy differs: Django adds features *within* a line, so it needs version
  markers; Python does not.) Do not write "On Python 3.X+, ..." or "if you are on
  3.13" in the main path — a conditional in the main path is the defect this rule
  exists to stop.
- **Older lines get one trailing section each, at the end of `SKILL.md`**, and
  nothing anywhere else — the reference files carry the current line only and get
  no trailing section of their own. Today that is `## Previous line: Python 3.13`.
  It carries the diff a reader on that version needs: what is missing, what to
  use instead, and what to change on upgrade.
- **Research order when refreshing.** `https://docs.python.org/3/whatsnew/` and
  the library reference first. Then the sources already cited under Canonical
  Sources. Blogs and newsletters last, briefly, for what the docs do not cover.
- **Rotation.** Each October a new line ships: re-base unmarked prose on it,
  replace the trailing section with the line being retired, drop stale markers.
