## What it does

This skill documents the Shadow Credentials attack path against Active Directory user and computer accounts. The technique injects an attacker-controlled public key into the target's `msDS-KeyCredentialLink` attribute. A Kerberos TGT is then requested via PKINIT to recover the target's NT hash. The existing password stays untouched.

The workflow covers manual steps with `pyWhisker` and `PKINITtools`, alongside one-step execution via `certipy shadow auto`. The environment must have at least one Domain Controller running Windows Server 2016 or later with PKINIT support. The attacking host requires Python 3.8+ and network reachability to LDAP (ports 389 or 636) and Kerberos (port 88). If your principal lacks `GenericWrite`, `GenericAll`, `WriteProperty`, or `AddKeyCredentialLink` over the target, LDAP will reject the write.

Recovered credentials can be tested immediately with `NetExec` using pass-the-hash. Computer account takeovers can chain directly into RBCD.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill abusing-shadow-credentials-for-privesc -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/abusing-shadow-credentials-for-privesc/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/abusing-shadow-credentials-for-privesc/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill abusing-shadow-credentials-for-privesc -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/abusing-shadow-credentials-for-privesc/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill abusing-shadow-credentials-for-privesc -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/abusing-shadow-credentials-for-privesc/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills abusing-shadow-credentials-for-privesc
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/abusing-shadow-credentials-for-privesc/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill abusing-shadow-credentials-for-privesc -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --path skills/abusing-shadow-credentials-for-privesc
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/abusing-shadow-credentials-for-privesc/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill abusing-shadow-credentials-for-privesc -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- take over Active Directory accounts without forcing a password reset
- recover user NT hashes via PKINIT and msDS-KeyCredentialLink
- automate Shadow Credentials attacks using Certipy shadow auto
- exploit GenericWrite or GenericAll permissions identified in BloodHound
- take over a domain computer account to chain into RBCD

## Example prompts
- Show me how to add a Shadow Credential to account victim using pyWhisker
- Run certipy shadow auto against domain computer WS01$
- Extract the NT hash using getnthash.py and the AS-REP encryption key

# Abusing Shadow Credentials for Privilege Escalation

> **Legal Notice:** This skill is for authorized security testing and educational purposes only. Shadow Credentials grant full takeover of the targeted account. Use only against systems you own or are explicitly authorized in writing to test. Unauthorized access is a crime.

## Overview

The **Shadow Credentials** technique abuses the `msDS-KeyCredentialLink` attribute of Active Directory user and computer objects. This attribute stores raw public keys ("Key Credentials") used by Windows Hello for Business and Azure AD device registration for passwordless certificate-based logon via PKINIT (Public Key Cryptography for Initial Authentication in Kerberos). If an attacker has write permission over a target object's `msDS-KeyCredentialLink` — typically granted by `GenericWrite`, `GenericAll`, `WriteProperty`, or `AddKeyCredentialLink` ACEs surfaced in BloodHound — they can append their own attacker-generated public key. They then request a TGT for the target via PKINIT using the matching private key and recover the target's NT hash, achieving complete account takeover **without resetting the password**, which is far stealthier than a forced password reset.
