## What it does

The skill pulls segments from your Adobe Analytics library and runs them against the metrics you pick: visits, pageviews, bounce rate, orders, revenue. For every metric it names the winner, the loser and the spread in percent, and flags a spread above 10% as significant. Metrics where lower is better, like bounce rate, flip the logic — the lowest value wins.

Everything runs through Adobe Analytics MCP tools: `findReportSuites` and `setSessionDefaults` set the report suite, `findSegments` and `findMetrics` resolve IDs, `runReport` fetches the numbers. Since `runReport` takes a single `segmentId` per call, N segments × M metrics means N×M calls plus one unsegmented call for the sizing panel. The skill advises staying within 4 segments and 6 metrics and always confirms the list with you first. Three segments across five metrics is 16 calls — go wider and the comparison drags.

The output is an HTML file at `/tmp/aa_segment_comparator_report_<YYYY-MM-DD_HHMMSS>.html`, built from `template.html`. Alongside the matrix you get a profile per segment: how many metrics it wins, how many it loses, where its edge is widest, and its share of total visits. You need Adobe Analytics access over MCP.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill aa-segment-performance-comparator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/aa-segment-performance-comparator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/aa-segment-performance-comparator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill aa-segment-performance-comparator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/aa-segment-performance-comparator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill aa-segment-performance-comparator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/aa-segment-performance-comparator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install adobe/skills aa-segment-performance-comparator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/aa-segment-performance-comparator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill aa-segment-performance-comparator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/adobe/skills --path plugins/adobe-analytics/skills/aa-segment-performance-comparator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/aa-segment-performance-comparator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill aa-segment-performance-comparator -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/adobe/skills/tree/HEAD/plugins/adobe-analytics/skills/aa-segment-performance-comparator/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- compare mobile and desktop visitors on conversion
- find which segment underperforms on revenue
- measure the gap between new and returning visitors
- show each segment's share of total traffic
- produce an HTML audience comparison for the team

## Example prompts
- Compare Mobile and Desktop on conversion and revenue for the last 30 days
- Compare new vs returning visitors on visits, orders and bouncerate
- Which segment in my library performs best on pagespervisit?

# Segment Performance Comparator (Adobe Analytics)

Compare the performance of two or more audience segments across key metrics
side by side to understand how different visitor groups behave. Uses direct
segment-vs-segment comparison to determine a winner, loser, and spread for
each metric, with a separate context panel showing segment sizing.

> **AA Call Budget:** AA's `runReport` accepts a single `segmentId` per call.
> For N segments × M metrics the comparison requires N×M calls, plus 1
> baseline call for the segment-size context panel. For 3 segments × 5
> metrics = 16 calls. Limit to 4 segments and 6 metrics for practical
> performance. Always confirm the segment/metric list with the user before
> starting.

---

## AA MCP Tools Used

- `findReportSuites` — select report suite
- `setSessionDefaults` — set session context (reportSuiteId + globalCompanyId)
- `findSegments` — discover and select comparison segments
- `findMetrics` — resolve metric IDs
- `runReport` — one call per segment per metric, plus one unsegmented call for sizing context

---

## Phase 0 — Setup

1. Confirm report suite with `findReportSuites` / `setSessionDefaults`.

```
findReportSuites(globalCompanyId: "<gcid>", page: 0, limit: 10)
setSessionDefaults(globalCompanyId: "<gcid>", reportSuiteId: "<rsid>")
```

---

## Phase 1 — Select Segments

Ask the user which segments to compare. If not specified, prompt:
> "Which visitor audiences would you like to compare? For example:
> Mobile vs. Desktop, New vs. Returning, Paid Search vs. Organic, or
> specific named segments from your library."

Search for and confirm each segment:
