## What it does

The skill writes an executive-ready performance summary from Adobe Analytics. No raw data dumps — metrics, movement and the drivers behind it. It runs on Adobe Analytics MCP tools such as `findReportSuites`, `setSessionDefaults`, `findMetrics` and `runReport`.

First it asks which period you want: last week, last month, MTD, a quarter or a custom range. Then it computes the current and comparison windows from your organisation's calendar conventions — week start day, fiscal year start, timezone. Two identical prompts return identical date ranges, because the alignment rules are fixed rather than left to the model.

A few things can trip it up. `describeAa` with `REPORT_SUITE_CONTEXT_GUIDE` returns nothing for some report suites, and the skill proceeds without that context. The `metrics/uniquevisitors` metric is often unauthorized, so `metrics/visits` is used instead. `findMetrics` requires the `expansions` parameter. Worth checking which metrics your report suite actually exposes before the briefing goes to leadership.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill aa-executive-briefing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/aa-executive-briefing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/aa-executive-briefing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill aa-executive-briefing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/aa-executive-briefing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill aa-executive-briefing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/aa-executive-briefing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install adobe/skills aa-executive-briefing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/aa-executive-briefing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill aa-executive-briefing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/adobe/skills --path plugins/adobe-analytics/skills/aa-executive-briefing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/aa-executive-briefing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add adobe/skills --skill aa-executive-briefing -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- write a performance summary for last week
- prepare a narrative for a quarterly business review
- explain to leadership what drove the numbers
- compare the current period against the previous one on equal windows
- produce a stakeholder readout without exporting raw data

## Example prompts
- Write an exec summary of last week's performance
- Create a performance briefing for our leadership team
- Produce a monthly business review summary from our metrics

# Executive Briefing (Adobe Analytics)

Generate a concise, executive-ready performance summary with narrative
context, metric highlights, and key drivers. Designed for leadership
audiences — no raw data dumps, just clear signals and business implications.

> **Key parameter facts validated during implementation:**
> - `runReport` → `metricIds` (plural), not `metricId`; dates as `YYYY-MM-DDTHH:mm:ss`
> - `findMetrics` → `expansions` is a **required** parameter (use `"componentType"`)
> - `describeAa` → parameter is `guideType`, not `guide`; `REPORT_SUITE_CONTEXT_GUIDE`
> may return empty for some report suites — skip gracefully and proceed
> - `metrics/uniquevisitors` is often unauthorized — use `metrics/visits` instead
> - `setSessionDefaults` is the correct tool name (not `setDefaultReportSuite`)

---

## AA MCP Tools Used

- `findReportSuites` — select report suite
- `setSessionDefaults` — set session context (reportSuiteId + globalCompanyId)
- `describeAa(guideType: "REPORT_SUITE_CONTEXT_GUIDE")` — load org context;
  note: may return no output for some report suites — proceed without it
- `findMetrics(expansions: "componentType")` — resolve metric IDs (expansions
  parameter is **required**)
- `listComponentUsage(componentType: "metric")` — identify most-used metrics
  if not specified by the user
- `runReport` — current and comparison period with all metrics batched in one
  call (`metricIds` accepts comma-separated IDs); dimension breakdowns for top movers
- `searchDimensionItems` — validate dimension values for driver callouts

---

## Phase 0 — Setup

1. Confirm report suite.
2. Load organizational context:

```
findReportSuites()
setSessionDefaults(reportSuiteId: "<rsid>", globalCompanyId: "<companyId>")
describeAa(guideType: "REPORT_SUITE_CONTEXT_GUIDE")   # may return empty — proceed if so
```

Use the context guide to understand:
