## What it does

The skill manages transitions across spring, summer, fall, and winter within a single 3D scene. It relies on a normalized four-component weight array `[spring, summer, fall, winter]`, accepting `autumn` as an alias. These weights feed directly into material uniforms, sky parameters, sun angles, and particle density. All color blends calculate strictly from authored base values rather than tinting the previous frame, which prevents progressive color drift.

Deciduous foliage thins out using deterministic thresholds while evergreens remain dense. Crucially, identical visibility rules must apply to shadow passes; otherwise, bare branches cast dense summer foliage shadows. Settled snow blends over upward-facing surfaces using `worldNormal.y`. Without shelter masks or outdoor tagging, the snow shader will whiten indoor floors and covered tables.

Transitions stay responsive by avoiding runtime shader recompilation and mesh reloads. Particle systems use preallocated pools, while season controls remain decoupled from time of day. Final lighting blends run once per frame so multiple environment controllers do not overwrite shared directional lights.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill 3d-four-seasons -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/3d-four-seasons/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/3d-four-seasons/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill 3d-four-seasons -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/3d-four-seasons/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill 3d-four-seasons -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/3d-four-seasons/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

## When to use it
- blend seasonal transitions in 3D without rebuilding scene geometry
- apply procedural snow to upward-facing exposed surfaces via shaders
- thin deciduous tree foliage for winter while updating shadow passes
- coordinate lighting, sky tint, and particle systems through a single weight vector

## Example prompts
- Set up a smooth four-season transition for this 3D scene using material uniforms
- Add procedural snow shader blending based on upward world normals and exposure masks
- Configure foliage thinning and autumn color palettes driven by the four-component weight vector

# 3D Four Seasons

Keep one recognizable place across all four seasons. Each season should change several mutually consistent visual cues while preserving camera state and interactions.

## Author the seasonal identity

Inventory deciduous trees, evergreens, exposed surfaces, sheltered surfaces, lights, sky, and existing weather. Use species and climate appropriate to the project; the table is a temperate-scene starting point.

| Season | Foliage and ground | Light and atmosphere | Motion |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Spring | Fresh foliage; blossom on appropriate species | Soft warm daylight; gentle haze | Sparse petals or young leaves |
| Summer | Dense deep greens; full ground cover | Stronger daylight; readable shaded greens | Restrained leaf drift and breeze |
| Fall | Species-specific amber, red, and brown; litter | Lower warm sun; golden haze | More falling leaves |
| Winter | Bare deciduous branches; retained evergreens; exposed snow | Cool sky fill; pale sun; warm interiors | Optional sparse snow; little leaf drift |

Choose particle effects only when they serve the scene. A seasonal selector does not require a storm or a full weather simulator.

## Share one state

Use a four-component blend in the order `[spring, summer, fall, winter]`. Accept `autumn` as an alias for `fall`, then normalize to one internal key. The weights start nonnegative and sum to one.

```js
const presets = {
  spring: [1, 0, 0, 0], summer: [0, 1, 0, 0],
  fall: [0, 0, 1, 0], winter: [0, 0, 0, 1],
};
const weights = [0, 1, 0, 0];
let target = presets.summer;
function setSeason(name) {
  const key = name === 'autumn' ? 'fall' : name;
  if (!Object.hasOwn(presets, key)) return false;
  target = presets[key];
  return true;
}
function stepSeason(dt, reducedMotion = false) {
  const a = reducedMotion ? 1 : 1 - Math.exp(-1.4 * Math.min(Math.max(dt, 0), 0.05));
  for (let i = 0; i < 4; i++) weights[i] += (target[i] - weights[i]) * a;
}
```
