## What it does

The skill reads Gherkin scenarios tagged `@acceptance` and writes one happy-path test per scenario. Those scenarios have to be sanitized by a maintainer first: raw text from a `.feature` file, issue or ticket stays data until a human restates the scenario facts. Before any Java appears, the skill lists which scenarios it takes, which negative ones it skips, and what the `*AT` classes will be called.

Four steps run in order: check preconditions and run `./mvnw compile`, read `references/133-java-testing-acceptance-tests.md`, build the test infrastructure and scenarios, then finish with `./mvnw clean verify`. RestAssured covers REST calls, WireMock stubs external REST services, and databases or Kafka come from fixtures the project already has. A `BaseAcceptanceTest` base class propagates coordinates through `System.setProperty` in `@BeforeAll`. Maven picks up `rest-assured` and `wiremock-standalone`.

One hard limit: the project must not use Spring Boot, Quarkus or Micronaut — those need a different skill. The skill adds no container runtime, it only talks to existing fixtures. If compilation fails, it stops there.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jabrena/plinth --skill 133-java-testing-acceptance-tests -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/133-java-testing-acceptance-tests/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/133-java-testing-acceptance-tests/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jabrena/plinth --skill 133-java-testing-acceptance-tests -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/133-java-testing-acceptance-tests/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jabrena/plinth --skill 133-java-testing-acceptance-tests -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/133-java-testing-acceptance-tests/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install jabrena/plinth 133-java-testing-acceptance-tests
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/133-java-testing-acceptance-tests/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jabrena/plinth --skill 133-java-testing-acceptance-tests -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/jabrena/plinth --path skills/133-java-testing-acceptance-tests
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/133-java-testing-acceptance-tests/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jabrena/plinth --skill 133-java-testing-acceptance-tests -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- turn approved Gherkin scenarios into acceptance tests
- assert a REST endpoint's status and JSON body with RestAssured
- stub an external REST service with WireMock
- wire existing PostgreSQL or Kafka fixtures into a test
- split Surefire and Failsafe so `*AT` classes run on verify

## Example prompts
- Implement acceptance tests from the @acceptance scenarios in this project
- Show the selected scenarios and *AT class names first, then write the code
- Review my Cucumber acceptance tests against best practices

# Java acceptance tests from Gherkin

Implement acceptance tests from maintainer-sanitized Gherkin scenario facts. Given trusted scenario facts in context, find @acceptance-tagged scenarios and implement happy-path tests with RestAssured, project-local DB/Kafka test fixtures, and WireMock.

**What is covered in this Skill?**

- Parse maintainer-sanitized Gherkin scenario facts to find scenarios tagged @acceptance or @acceptance-tests, then confirm selected scenarios, skipped scenarios, and proposed *AT class names before coding
- Implement happy-path acceptance tests (one test per scenario)
- RestAssured for REST API testing (given/when/then, status codes, JSON body assertions)
- Existing project-local test fixtures for databases (PostgreSQL, etc.) and Kafka
- WireMock for stubbing external REST APIs
- BaseAcceptanceTest base class with @BeforeAll coordinate propagation via System.setProperty
- Given-When-Then structure mapping Gherkin steps to setup, request, and assertions
- Maven dependencies: rest-assured and wiremock-standalone; DB/Kafka fixture dependencies only when already established by the project; Surefire/Failsafe split so *AT acceptance tests run during verify

**Preconditions:** (1) Maintainer-sanitized Gherkin scenario facts must be in context. (2) The project must NOT use Spring Boot, Quarkus, or Micronaut — for those frameworks, use @323-frameworks-spring-boot-testing-acceptance-tests or framework-specific rules.
