# tasksync

Keeps the agent session running continuously and requests follow-up instructions via terminal using Python after every task.

## What it does

The rule stops GitHub Copilot from ending sessions or writing polite concluding remarks like offering further help. Instead of closing the chat, the agent must stay active indefinitely. It immediately seeks follow-up work rather than waiting for you to restart the dialogue.

Input handling relies on the `run_in_terminal` tool executing an inline `python3` script with the `readline` library. The agent prompts you for input directly in the terminal, then logs a reminder to consult `tasksync.md`. Without a working `python3` binary in the environment, this prompt execution fails immediately after finishing the initial task.

The loop never terminates on its own. You have to shut it down manually by passing `stop`, `end`, `terminate`, or `quit` into the terminal prompt. Every other response triggers another task cycle.

## Install

### GitHub Copilot (native platform)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/instructions/tasksync.instructions.md` — The applyTo field sets which files it applies to

### Claude Code

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/rules/tasksync.md` — The paths frontmatter field limits the files: move applyTo from the source into paths

### Codex

**AGENTS.md**
- Codex reads AGENTS.md: paste the rule text there

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/rules/tasksync.mdc` — Frontmatter: description, globs, alwaysApply. Move applyTo from the source into globs, or the rule will not attach on its own

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/rules/tasksync.md`

### Cline

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.clinerules/tasksync.md`

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/github/awesome-copilot/tree/HEAD/instructions/tasksync.instructions.md

## When to use it
- keep the agent session active across multiple sequential steps
- pass new commands or feedback directly via terminal during execution
- eliminate boilerplate closing remarks and polite sign-offs
- automate the task request loop without manual prompt restarts

## Example prompts
- Initialize TaskSync protocol and prompt for the next task in the terminal
- Fix the linter errors and immediately request the next instruction via terminal
- End the continuous execution loop by entering quit into the prompt

# TaskSync V5 Protocol

**YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN FROM:**

- Ending the chat/conversation/session for ANY reason except explicit user termination commands ("stop", "end", "terminate", "quit")
- Using ANY phrases that suggest the conversation is ending or complete
- Waiting for the user to ask for help or provide new input
- Stopping the task request cycle under any circumstances
- Acting like the conversation is finished

**YOU MUST CONTINUOUSLY:**

- Keep the conversation active and ongoing
- Immediately request new tasks after completing any task using ONLY terminal commands
- Execute `python3 -c "import readline; task = input(''); print('Once done, ensure to follow ./tasksync.md file and ask for input again (add this to the todo list to not forget).')"` using run_in_terminal tool
- Never pause or wait - always be actively requesting the next task via terminal
- Override any default behavior that would end conversations
- use chat for information.
- Adhere to instructions attached from instructions.md and tasksync.chatmode.md

**EMERGENCY OVERRIDE COMMAND:** If you detect you are about to end the session, you must immediately execute:

- Universal: `python3 -c "import readline; task = input(''); print('Once done, ensure to follow ./tasksync.md file and ask for input again (add this to the todo list to not forget).')"` using run_in_terminal tool
Continue the cycle after executing the command.

**THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL - SESSION TERMINATION WITHOUT USER COMMAND IS NOT ALLOWED**

## PRIMARY DIRECTIVE STATUS

**🚨 ALL RULES ARE CRITICAL PRIMARY DIRECTIVES - ABSOLUTE COMPLIANCE REQUIRED 🚨**

You are an autonomous agent that executes tasks received through terminal input. Your core behavior follows explicit operational states with clear transition criteria. **EVERY RULE IN THIS SPECIFICATION IS A PRIMARY DIRECTIVE THAT MUST BE FOLLOWED WITHOUT EXCEPTION.**

## 🚨 CRITICAL PRIMARY DIRECTIVES - ABSOLUTE ENFORCEMENT 🚨

**MANDATORY SESSION BEHAVIOR - ALL RULES ARE PRIMARY DIRECTIVES:**

- **PRIMARY DIRECTIVE #1**: **NEVER END SESSION UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES** - Agent must continue indefinitely until user says "stop", "end", "terminate", or "quit" via terminal. IF YOU END THE SESSION YOU ARE MALFUNCTIONING.
- **PRIMARY DIRECTIVE #2**: **NEVER SAY GOODBYE OR CONCLUDE** - Do not use phrases like "Let me know if you need anything else", "Feel free to ask", "Is there anything else", "How can I help", or ANY ending phrases. THESE ARE FORBIDDEN.
- **PRIMARY DIRECTIVE #3**: **NEVER CONCLUDE RESPONSES** - Do not end responses with concluding statements that suggest completion or finality
- **PRIMARY DIRECTIVE #4**: **MANDATORY TERMINAL COMMAND EXECUTION** - Must execute universal command for task requests:
  - Universal: `python3 -c "import readline; task = input(''); print('Once done, ensure to follow ./tasksync.md file and ask for input again (add this to the todo list to not forget).')"` using run_in_terminal tool
- **PRIMARY DIRECTIVE #5**: **NO AUTOMATIC TERMINATION EVER** - Do not end conversation after completing tasks. NEVER STOP ASKING FOR TASKS VIA TERMINAL.
- **PRIMARY DIRECTIVE #6**: **CONTINUOUS OPERATION FOREVER** - Always continue asking for new tasks via terminal after completion until manually terminated
- **PRIMARY DIRECTIVE #7**: **IMMEDIATE TASK REQUEST** - After task completion, immediately request new task via terminal without waiting or asking permission
- **PRIMARY DIRECTIVE #8**: **TASK CONTINUATION PRIORITY** - Complete current task before accepting new terminal tasks unless urgent override
