## What it does

The file tells the agent how to write code in your project: TypeScript everywhere, interfaces over types, functional components, no classes and no enums — use maps instead. Files follow a fixed order of exported component, subcomponents, helpers, static content, types. Directories use lowercase with dashes, components use named exports.

A separate section covers performance and client code. The rule asks you to keep `use client`, `useEffect` and `setState` to a minimum, wrap client components in `Suspense` with a fallback, and load non-critical parts dynamically. For URL state it points at `nuqs`; for images it wants WebP with size data and lazy loading.

There is also a block on `ai-sdk-rsc`: installing the library, a middleware in `middleware.ts` that manages sessions through `@vercel/kv`, and hooks for streaming generative content. Note that this part needs access to Vercel KV and environment variables holding API keys and database credentials — the rule advises keeping them in Vercel's environment settings rather than the repo.

## Install

### Cursor (native platform)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/rules/nextjs-vercel-typescript-cursorrules-prompt-file.mdc` — Frontmatter: description, globs, alwaysApply

### Claude Code

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/rules/nextjs-vercel-typescript-cursorrules-prompt-file.md` — The paths frontmatter field limits the files: move globs from the source into paths

### Codex

**AGENTS.md**
- Codex reads AGENTS.md: paste the rule text there

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/instructions/nextjs-vercel-typescript-cursorrules-prompt-file.instructions.md` — The applyTo field sets which files it applies to: move globs from the source into applyTo

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/rules/nextjs-vercel-typescript-cursorrules-prompt-file.md`

### Cline

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.clinerules/nextjs-vercel-typescript-cursorrules-prompt-file.md`

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/PatrickJS/awesome-cursorrules/tree/HEAD/rules/nextjs-vercel-typescript-cursorrules-prompt-file.mdc

## When to use it
- set one TypeScript style for the agent across a Next.js project
- lay out component files in a fixed structure
- cut down client components and move logic to the server
- wire up middleware with sessions backed by Vercel KV
- stream model output through `ai-sdk-rsc`

## Example prompts
- Create a chat component under `components/chat` following the project rules
- Refactor this component: drop `use client` and move data fetching to the server
- Set up `middleware/ai-middleware.ts` with a Vercel KV session

To extend the provided rules to include usage of the `ai-sdk-rsc` library and integrate it with Vercel middleware and a KV database, here's an updated set of instructions tailored for use with Cursor IDE. These instructions are designed to help you effectively implement generative user interfaces using React Server Components (RSC) with the AI SDK.

### Extended Rules for AI SDK RSC Integration with Vercel Middleware and KV Database

**Environment and Tools**

- You are an expert in TypeScript, Node.js, Next.js App Router, React, Shadcn UI, Radix UI, Tailwind, and Vercel middleware.
- You are familiar with Vercel's KV database for managing stateful data.

**Code Style and Structure**

- Write concise, technical TypeScript code with accurate examples.
- Use functional and declarative programming patterns; avoid classes.
- Prefer iteration and modularization over code duplication.
- Use descriptive variable names with auxiliary verbs (e.g., `isLoading`, `hasError`).
- Structure files: exported component, subcomponents, helpers, static content, types.

**Naming Conventions**

- Use lowercase with dashes for directories (e.g., `components/auth-wizard`).
- Favor named exports for components.

**TypeScript Usage**

- Use TypeScript for all code; prefer interfaces over types.
- Avoid enums; use maps instead.
- Use functional components with TypeScript interfaces.

**Syntax and Formatting**

- Use the `function` keyword for pure functions.
- Avoid unnecessary curly braces in conditionals; use concise syntax for simple statements.
- Use declarative JSX.

**UI and Styling**

- Use Shadcn UI, Radix UI, and Tailwind for components and styling.
- Implement responsive design with Tailwind CSS; use a mobile-first approach.

**Performance Optimization**

- Minimize `use client`, `useEffect`, and `setState`; favor React Server Components (RSC).
- Wrap client components in `Suspense` with fallback.
- Use dynamic loading for non-critical components.
- Optimize images: use WebP format, include size data, implement lazy loading.

**Key Conventions**

- Use `nuqs` for URL search parameter state management.
- Optimize Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, FID).
- Limit `use client`:
  - Favor server components and Next.js SSR.
  - Use only for Web API access in small components.
  - Avoid for data fetching or state management.
- Follow Next.js docs for Data Fetching, Rendering, and Routing.

**AI SDK RSC Integration**

- **Setup and Installation**: Integrate `ai-sdk-rsc` into your Next.js project.
  - Install the library using `npm install ai-sdk-rsc` or `yarn add ai-sdk-rsc`.
  - Configure middleware in `middleware.ts` to manage requests and sessions using Vercel's KV database.

- **Middleware Implementation**: Use Vercel middleware to handle incoming requests.
  - Create a middleware file in the `middleware` directory (e.g., `middleware/ai-middleware.ts`).
  - Use middleware to parse user input and manage sessions with the KV database.
  - Example:
    ```typescript
    import { NextRequest, NextResponse } from 'next/server';
    import { kv } from '@vercel/kv';
    export async function middleware(req: NextRequest) {
````

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the 9558dbdae7c31cf1 tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
