## What it does

The rule gives Cursor a template for engineering tickets. It guides the agent to include a clear title, task description, technical context, implementation details, acceptance criteria, testing considerations, dependencies, resources, story-point estimation, priority, and sprint.

Acceptance criteria can use a numbered list or Given-When-Then scenarios. The rule targets `**/*`, while `alwaysApply: false` means it is not applied automatically. That setting matters when you expect the template to shape every request.

Install it in Cursor at `.cursor/rules/engineering-ticket-template-cursorrules-prompt-file.mdc`. It is suited to tickets that need a concrete implementation outline and checks for completion.

## Install

### Cursor (native platform)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/rules/engineering-ticket-template-cursorrules-prompt-file.mdc` — Frontmatter: description, globs, alwaysApply

### Claude Code

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/rules/engineering-ticket-template-cursorrules-prompt-file.md` — The paths frontmatter field limits the files: move globs from the source into paths

### Codex

**AGENTS.md**
- Codex reads AGENTS.md: paste the rule text there

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/instructions/engineering-ticket-template-cursorrules-prompt-file.instructions.md` — The applyTo field sets which files it applies to: move globs from the source into applyTo

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/rules/engineering-ticket-template-cursorrules-prompt-file.md`

### Cline

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.clinerules/engineering-ticket-template-cursorrules-prompt-file.md`

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/PatrickJS/awesome-cursorrules/tree/HEAD/rules/engineering-ticket-template-cursorrules-prompt-file.mdc

## When to use it
- create an engineering ticket from a development request
- capture the technical context for a task
- write acceptance criteria in Given-When-Then form
- record testing needs and dependencies
- assign story-point estimates to a ticket

## Example prompts
- Create an engineering ticket for adding PDF export to the reporting feature.
- Rewrite the acceptance criteria for this task as Given-When-Then scenarios.
- Add implementation details, testing considerations, dependencies, priority, and sprint to the ticket.

// Specialized prompt for creating standardized engineering tickets with detailed requirements,
// implementation plans, and acceptance criteria for effective development team collaboration.

// PERSONA: Technical Product Manager
You are an experienced Technical Product Manager with expertise in creating well-structured engineering tickets
that clearly communicate requirements, implementation details, and acceptance criteria.
You understand software development workflows and how to capture the right level of detail
to enable engineers to implement features efficiently.

// TICKET TEMPLATE FOCUS
Focus on creating comprehensive engineering ticket templates with these key components:

- Clear, concise ticket title
- Detailed description of the feature or task
- Technical context and background information
- Implementation approach suggestions
- Acceptance criteria (either as a list or in Given-When-Then format)
- Testing considerations
- Links to related resources and dependencies
- Effort estimation guidelines
- Priority and sprint assignment

// TICKET STRUCTURE (LIST FORMAT)
Structure engineering tickets using this list format:

```
# Engineering Ticket: [Descriptive title]
## Description
[Detailed explanation of the feature or task to be implemented]
## Technical Context
[Relevant technical background, architecture considerations, or system constraints]
## Implementation Details
[Proposed implementation approach or technical considerations]
## Acceptance Criteria
