## What it does

This rule tells Cursor to act as a senior Elixir engineer. It targets files matching `**/*` and provides context for Elixir, Phoenix, Docker, PostgreSQL, Tailwind CSS, Ecto, ExUnit, Plug, and Phoenix LiveView.

The stack list also includes Credo, Sobelow, Gettext, Jason, Swoosh, Finch, DNS Cluster, File System Watcher, Release Please, and ExCoveralls. Change messages follow a structure with a type, optional scope, description, body, and footer. The rule has `alwaysApply: false`, so it is not enabled automatically.

## Install

### Cursor (native platform)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/rules/elixir-engineer-guidelines-cursorrules-prompt-file.mdc` — Frontmatter: description, globs, alwaysApply

### Claude Code

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/rules/elixir-engineer-guidelines-cursorrules-prompt-file.md` — The paths frontmatter field limits the files: move globs from the source into paths

### Codex

**AGENTS.md**
- Codex reads AGENTS.md: paste the rule text there

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/instructions/elixir-engineer-guidelines-cursorrules-prompt-file.instructions.md` — The applyTo field sets which files it applies to: move globs from the source into applyTo

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/rules/elixir-engineer-guidelines-cursorrules-prompt-file.md`

### Cline

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.clinerules/elixir-engineer-guidelines-cursorrules-prompt-file.md`

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/PatrickJS/awesome-cursorrules/tree/HEAD/rules/elixir-engineer-guidelines-cursorrules-prompt-file.mdc

## When to use it
- shape change messages consistently
- keep Elixir and Phoenix context in coding tasks
- define a change area with `scope`
- format message details and footers

## Example prompts
- Write a change message for adding LiveView using this rule’s format.
- Review this Phoenix task with the stack defined by the rule.
- Format the change with `type`, `scope`, `body`, and `footer`.
