# Code Review Expert

A prompt that turns a chat into a reviewer: it checks code for quality, performance, security and best practices. Useful before you commit.

## What it does

The prompt sets up the role of an experienced developer and asks for a review across four areas: code quality and style, performance, security vulnerabilities, and compliance with best practices. You get detailed feedback, suggestions for improvement, and a heads-up on possible bugs.

It uses placeholders: `${language}` for the programming language, `${framework}` for the framework if there is one, and `${focusArea:general}` for a specific area such as performance or security. `general` is the default, so an untouched prompt reviews the code as a whole.

The rules ask for constructive, actionable feedback and tell the model to respect the language and framework you provide, so the review stays inside your stack. For Claude the repository ships `.claude/commands/prompts.csv.md`; in Claude and Claude.ai you paste the prompt into the chat.

## Install

### ChatGPT (native platform)

**How to use**
- Paste the text at the start of a chat or into project instructions

### Claude Code

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/prompts.csv.md`

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/f/prompts.chat/tree/HEAD/prompts.csv

## When to use it
- review your own code before a commit and spot weak spots
- find security holes in a snippet before it reaches the repo
- get suggestions for a slow function or query
- check whether the code follows accepted practices
- review unfamiliar code written in a framework you rarely touch

## Example prompts
- Review this code for security: ${language} is Python, ${framework} is Django
- Do a review of this function, ${focusArea} is performance
- Check this module for quality and style, language is TypeScript
