## What it does

The plugin gives Claude live web access through four skills: `you-web` for search, `you-research` for multi-source analysis, `you-finance` for market figures, and `you-discover` for You.com tooling. Claude inspects recent package releases or error traces and cites visited links directly in replies.

The package contains skill declarations and remote MCP server configurations. It runs no local background daemons. Outgoing queries route to remote endpoints like `https://api.you.com/mcp`, `https://api.you.com/mcp/research`, and `https://api.you.com/mcp/finance`. The agent treats retrieved web content as untrusted input rather than system instructions.

Basic web search operates without credentials via the free profile. Extracting full pages and reading financial metrics will fail without an OAuth login or a `YDC_API_KEY` token.

# You.com Web Search & Research

Give Claude live access to the web. This plugin adds You.com search, full-page content extraction, and cited multi-source research to Claude, so answers about fast-moving libraries, APIs, tools, and markets come from current sources instead of stale training data. Every answer cites the pages it read.

## What you can do

- **Search the live web**: find current information, news, pricing, and facts, then read the actual pages before answering.
- **Pull web data into your work**: extract clean Markdown, HTML, or metadata from any public URL, including docs pages, tables, and reports.
- **Code with current docs**: look up the latest library docs, API references, changelogs, breaking changes, package versions, and fixes for error messages while you build.
- **Research with citations**: compare frameworks, evaluate tools and vendors, or produce a deep-dive report synthesized from many sources.
- **Research companies and markets**: get stock prices, earnings, and company financials.
- **Build with You.com**: find the right You.com API, MCP server, or SDK path for your own app or agent.

Basic web search works without an account through the free MCP profile. For full search, content extraction, research, and finance, sign in with OAuth when prompted or set an API key from [you.com/platform/api-keys](https://you.com/platform/api-keys).

## What this plugin connects to

The plugin contains skills and remote MCP server configs only. It has no hooks and starts no local MCP servers or scripts. When a skill runs, Claude sends your search queries, the URLs you ask it to read, and research or finance questions to You.com's MCP servers:

- `https://api.you.com/mcp` (search, contents, discovery; `?profile=free` for keyless search)
- `https://api.you.com/mcp/research` (research)
- `https://api.you.com/mcp/finance` (finance)
- `https://you.com/docs/_mcp/server` (You.com docs search, used by `you-discover`)

Requests are handled under the [You.com privacy policy](https://you.com/privacy). Web pages and search results are treated as untrusted data, never as instructions.
