# vibe-replay

Turns an AI coding session into an interactive HTML replay plus GitHub PR artifacts. Useful when a reviewer needs the reasoning behind a diff, not just the diff.

## What it does

The plugin builds one self-contained HTML file out of a session: prompts, thinking blocks, tool calls and code diffs play back with animation. There are three viewing modes — All, Compact and Custom — and playback runs at 1×, 5× or 10×.

For pull requests it writes a markdown description and an animated GIF. Session analytics cover token spend and cost, context window fill, cache hit share, and which tools the model reached for across models.

Run `npx vibe-replay -d` to browse sessions across projects with an activity heatmap and search. Filters narrow by git repo, tool, MCP server, skill or context compaction, and any session can be replayed in a click. Replays are built from local session files. SSH sources live in `~/.vibe-replay/config.json` and reuse your existing OpenSSH keys and aliases. The `vibe-replay relay` mode is read-only, runs over an encrypted pipe, and its share URL stops working the moment the CLI is killed.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-community
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install vibe-replay@claude-community
```

## When to use it
- show a reviewer how the model reached a particular diff
- produce a self-contained HTML replay of a session
- attach an animated GIF of the work to a pull request
- check token spend and cost for one session
- find a past session by tool, MCP server or skill

## Example prompts
- Generate a replay of this session and attach the artifacts to the pull request
- Show the analytics for the last session: tokens, cost and context usage
- Open the dashboard and filter sessions by the `postgres` MCP server

Turn Claude, Cursor, Codex, OpenCode, Hermes, Muse, Pi, and Grok Bot sessions into shareable, interactive replays — then analyze them with local insights, AI Studio, and Ask Replay.

### The problem

AI agents write code in long, complex sessions — dozens of tool calls, hundreds of file edits, thousands of lines of reasoning. When the session ends, all that context disappears. Your PR diff shows _what_ changed, but reviewers can't see _why_. Teammates can't learn from your prompting. You can't even replay your own session next week.

### The fix

One command. One self-contained HTML file. Every prompt, every thought, every tool call — animated, searchable, and ready to share.

```bash
npx vibe-replay
```

> **Release note:** Muse support, Quick Share, and `vibe-replay relay` are on current `main` and will ship in the next npm release. `npx vibe-replay` runs the currently published package.

> Also available as a [Claude Code plugin](#claude-code-plugin) — your agent generates replays automatically during PR creation.

## What You Get

### All your sessions, one place

Launch with `npx vibe-replay -d` and see every Claude, Cursor, Codex, OpenCode, Hermes, Muse, Pi, and Grok Bot session across all projects — with a daily activity snapshot, activity heatmaps, cost totals, and project analytics. Search sessions, filter by git repo, tool, MCP server/tool, skill, or context compaction, expand any session to see its own tool/MCP breakdown, and generate any replay in one click.

Switching dashboard tabs starts a fresh list; returning from a replay restores your previous filters. Clear a search with Escape or the × button, and use **Clear filters** when a search has no matches. Replay playback supports 1×, 5×, and 10× speed on desktop and mobile.

</p>

### Remote SSH sources

The dashboard can also include JSONL sessions from any OpenSSH-compatible host. Add targets from the
dashboard's **Settings** tab, or directly in `~/.vibe-replay/config.json`:

```json
{
  "remoteSources": [
    {
      "id": "remote-dev",
      "label": "Remote dev",
      "sshHost": "devbox",
      "providers": ["codex", "claude-code", "pi"]
    }
  ]
}
```

The Settings form validates source ids, provider selections, and connection timeouts, and can run a
bounded SSH probe before you refresh the catalog. It uses your existing OpenSSH keys, aliases, and
ProxyJump configuration; credentials are never stored by vibe-replay.
