## What it does

terraform is a HashiCorp plugin that wires the Terraform MCP server into Claude. The agent gets access to the Terraform ecosystem and can read, explain and write Infrastructure as Code configs from the chat window.

Under the hood it is an MCP server — a separate process Claude talks to over the MCP protocol. The plugin ships through the official marketplace `anthropics/claude-plugins-official` under Apache-2.0. Install takes two commands: add the marketplace, then install the plugin.

Nothing here is Terraform-specific beyond Terraform itself, so on a repo with no `.tf` files the server just sits idle. If your project does use Terraform, this is worth a look before you keep pasting config chunks into the chat by hand.

## Requirements
- Works with: Terraform

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install terraform@claude-plugins-official
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-official
```

## When to use it
- read and explain existing Terraform configs in a repo
- write a new resource or module from a description
- figure out what a legacy `*.tf` file actually provisions
- check Terraform details without leaving Claude

## Example prompts
- read my Terraform configs and explain what this module creates
- add an S3 bucket resource with versioning to `main.tf`
- check `variables.tf` and list the variables nothing uses
