# remember

## What it does

The plugin hooks into the Claude lifecycle. `save-session.sh` fires during work, a Python script extracts the session, Haiku summarizes it, and the result lands in `now.md`. From there it compresses in layers: hourly compression produces `today-YYYY-MM-DD.md`, daily consolidation produces `recent.md` and `archive.md`. Each layer is shorter than the one above it, so the whole history fits in a small token budget.

At session start the `SessionStart` hook injects `identity.md`, the `remember.md` handoff note from the previous session, `now.md`, today's summary, `recent.md` for the last 7 days, and `archive.md`. Rotated slices `archive-YYYY-MM-DD.md` and `recent-YYYY-MM-DD.md` stay out of context but remain searchable. After a compaction only `identity.md` is injected again, because the rest was already delivered.

You need Python 3.9+, the Claude CLI with Haiku access, Bash 3.2+, and `jq`. On Windows there is no run without a POSIX shell in `PATH` — Git Bash, MSYS2, or WSL. Hooks are read at session start, so restart Claude after installing.
