## What it does

The plugin pairs the Pigment MCP server with skills that explain how the platform works — its formula language, modeling patterns, board conventions. Those skill files load on their own, so the assistant follows the vendor's own rules instead of guessing at syntax.

The server runs in two modes. Public mode is read-only: locate applications, blocks and boards, trace how a metric is structured and what it depends on, fetch metric and list data. Advanced mode adds write access — spin up applications, build blocks (dimensions, metrics, tables), author formulas, lay out views and boards, enter data. It is off by default and each user turns it on in their account settings.

Turn on MCP in your Pigment workspace first, under Settings > Integrations > MCP. Then set the server URL: paste it into the chat and ask the agent to update the config, or edit `.mcp.json` yourself. Connections use OAuth with your own credentials, so your Pigment permissions carry over. One thing to know — the advanced `search` tool surfaces block metadata such as names, data types and dimensions, and access rights do not apply to metadata. Keep sensitive details out of block metadata.

## When to use it
- locate a specific application, block or board
- trace metric structure and dependencies
- pull metric or list data for a sanity check
- stand up a new application with dimensions, metrics and tables
- write a Pigment formula and validate it

## Example prompts
- Find the revenue planning application in Pigment and list the metrics it contains
- Create a metric in the `Forecast` application with a formula for monthly margin
- Validate the formula in the `Revenue` metric and show me what's wrong
