## What it does

The plugin ships three skills that compose into one build path. `build-mcp-server` is the front door: it interrogates the use case, picks a deployment model (remote HTTP, MCPB or local stdio), picks a tool-design pattern and routes to a specialized skill. `build-mcp-app` adds interactive UI widgets — forms, pickers, confirm dialogs rendered inline in chat — and works on remote servers and MCPB bundles. `build-mcpb` packages a local stdio server with its runtime so users can install it without Node or Python.

From your answers the entry skill recommends one of four paths. For anything wrapping a cloud API it points at remote streamable-HTTP and scaffolds it inline. Need in-chat UI? It hands off to `build-mcp-app`. Server has to touch the local machine? That goes to `build-mcpb`. A local stdio prototype gets scaffolded in place too, with a note about upgrading to MCPB later.

Each skill carries reference files for the parts that don't fit in the main instructions: auth flows (DCR/CIMD), tool-description writing, widget templates, manifest schemas, security hardening. It only runs in Claude — there is no other install target.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install mcp-server-dev@claude-plugins-official
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-official
```

## When to use it
- pick a deployment model for an MCP server that fits the use case
- scaffold a remote HTTP server wrapping a cloud API
- add forms and confirm dialogs inline in chat
- package a local stdio server so it installs without Node or Python
- work out DCR and CIMD auth flows

## Example prompts
- help me build an MCP server
- /mcp-server-dev:build-mcp-server
- I need an MCP server that reads local files — package it as MCPB

## What's inside

Three skills that compose into a full build path:

| Skill | Purpose |
|---|---|
| **`build-mcp-server`** | Entry point. Interrogates the use case, picks deployment model (remote HTTP / MCPB / local stdio), picks tool-design pattern, routes to a specialized skill. |
| **`build-mcp-app`** | Adds interactive UI widgets (forms, pickers, confirm dialogs) rendered inline in chat. Works on remote servers and MCPB bundles. |
| **`build-mcpb`** | Packages a local stdio server with its runtime so users can install it without Node/Python. For servers that must touch the local machine. |

## How it works

`build-mcp-server` is the front door. It asks what you're connecting to, who'll use it, how big the action surface is, and whether you need in-chat UI. From those answers it recommends one of four paths:

- **Remote streamable-HTTP** (the default recommendation for anything wrapping a cloud API) — scaffolded inline
- **MCP app** — hands off to `build-mcp-app`
- **MCPB** — hands off to `build-mcpb`
- **Local stdio prototype** — scaffolded inline with an MCPB upgrade note

Each skill ships reference files for the parts that don't fit in the main instructions: auth flows (DCR/CIMD), tool-description writing, widget templates, manifest schemas, security hardening.

## Usage

Ask Claude to "help me build an MCP server" and the entry skill will trigger. Or invoke directly:

```
/mcp-server-dev:build-mcp-server
```

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the 8f0fb664e36b14f7 tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
