## What it does

The plugin wires Claude into your Outline workspace over Model Context Protocol. The agent searches documents, reads them, creates and edits pages, archives them, works with collections and threaded comments, and finds backlinks. Content is also reachable through URIs like `outline://document/{id}` and `outline://collection/{id}`. Rate limits are handled for you: the server retries when the API pushes back.

Installing the repo as a plugin gets you more than the server. It bundles the `outline-explorer` subagent for fast read-only wiki browsing and the `outline` skill covering Outline conventions — mermaid fences, document structure, editing workflows.

You need an Outline account and an API key from Settings → API Keys → Create New. Tool calls fail without it. Non-Docker installs want Python 3.10+. Point `OUTLINE_API_URL` at your instance for self-hosted setups; the default is `https://app.getoutline.com/api`. If the agent is pointed at a shared team wiki, set `OUTLINE_READ_ONLY=true` — that disables every write operation, and it is the safer starting point.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-community
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install mcp-outline@claude-community
```

## When to use it
- find the right wiki page from a plain-language query
- turn a draft the agent just wrote into an Outline document
- pull a document's contents into the current task
- list documents in a collection and their hierarchy
- see which pages link back to a given document

## Example prompts
- Find the onboarding doc in Outline and pull out the steps for a new developer
- Create a page in the Engineering collection describing our API, with a mermaid diagram
- Show me which documents link to `outline://document/abc123`
