# llm-wiki-compiler

Compiles scattered markdown files and code into a topic-based wiki, so the agent reads articles instead of hundreds of raw files. Useful once a project outgrows a couple dozen files.

## What it does

The plugin turns sources into topic articles: `INDEX.md`, `topics/`, `concepts/` and `schema.md`. Instead of re-reading dozens of raw files, the agent opens the index and a couple of articles. The description claims roughly 90% lower context cost.

Two modes. `/wiki-init` detects whether you are in a codebase or a knowledge project, samples your files and proposes an article structure. Then `/wiki-compile` builds articles in a batch, `/wiki-ingest` takes a single file, `/wiki-capture` adds a link with context, `/wiki-search` and `/wiki-query` search the finished wiki, `/wiki-lint` checks its health, `/wiki-visualize` draws the knowledge graph. The first compile run takes 5-10 minutes.

There are two layers: a global wiki in `~/Knowledge` for cross-project links, and a local one in the current repo with `.wiki-compiler.json`. Hooks register only after you restart Claude — skip that and the wiki will not load automatically at session start. Codex has no slash commands; the same workflows run from plain prompts.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):

/plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-community
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install llm-wiki-compiler@claude-community
```
## When to use it
- stop re-reading hundreds of raw files every session
- build topic articles out of meeting notes and research
- generate a wiki straight from a code repository
- capture a link with a note on why it matters
- check whether the wiki drifted after source edits
## Example prompts
- /wiki-init
- /wiki-compile
- /wiki-query what do we know about retention?
# LLM Wiki Compiler
A Claude Code and Codex-compatible plugin that compiles knowledge into a topic-based wiki — from scattered markdown files **or entire codebases**. Reduce context costs by ~90% and give your agent a synthesized understanding of any project.
**[Documentation](https://saydo-5cd0e3d7.mintlify.app/)**
### What's New in v2.1
- **Codex-compatible plugin metadata** — install from the same `plugin/` package root
- **Skill-first Codex workflows** — use natural prompts instead of Claude slash commands
- **Shared session context helper** — one wiki context renderer for Claude hooks and Codex guidance
### What's New in v2.0
- **Codebase mode** — generate wikis from code repositories, not just markdown files
- **Auto-detection** — `/wiki-init` detects whether you're in a codebase or knowledge project
- **Knowledge graph visualization** — interactive canvas-based graph of your wiki
## Inspiration
This plugin implements the **LLM Knowledge Base** pattern described by [Andrej Karpathy](https://x.com/karpathy/status/2039805659525644595):
> *"Raw data from a given number of sources is collected, then compiled by an LLM into a .md wiki, then operated on by various CLIs by the LLM to do Q&A and to incrementally enhance the wiki, and all of it viewable in Obsidian. You rarely ever write or edit the wiki manually, it's the domain of the LLM."*
The key insight: instead of re-reading hundreds of raw files every session, have the LLM compile them into topic-based articles once, then query the synthesized wiki. Knowledge compounds instead of fragmenting.
## What It Does
You have 100+ files across meetings, strategy docs, codebases, and research. Every Claude session re-reads them. This plugin compiles them into topic-based articles that synthesize everything known about each subject — with backlinks to sources.
**Before:** Read 13+ raw files (~3,200 lines) per session
**After:** Read INDEX + 2 topic articles (~330 lines) per session
