# goalkeeper

goalkeeper runs long tasks from a written contract and sends completed work to a judge subagent. Use it when passing tests alone does not prove the goal is done.

## What it does

Start with `/goalkeeper:goal-prep` to shape the objective, completion criteria, validator command, and non-goals. The plugin writes a contract to `.claude/goals/<slug>/contract.md`, then works through checkpoints and records progress in `log.md`.

A validator runs at each checkpoint. Once it passes, a separate subagent compares the diff and progress log with the Definition of Done. It either approves or returns a structured fix-list. Five rejections pause the task and request human help. Repeated rejections therefore stop an unattended run rather than letting it continue indefinitely.

Use `/goalkeeper:goal-chain` for a linear sequence; the judge gates handoff between goals. Contracts live under `.claude/goals/`, and `/goalkeeper:goal-clear` moves a goal into `.claude/goals/_archive/` without deleting its files.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-community
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install goalkeeper@claude-community
```

## When to use it
- break a long objective into logged checkpoints
- check a diff against explicit completion criteria
- get a fix-list when the judge rejects a checkpoint
- gate handoff between goals in a linear chain
- pause execution after repeated judge rejections

## Example prompts
- Draft a contract for moving the test suite from Jest to Vitest with `/goalkeeper:goal-prep`.
- Start a goal to migrate the tests without changing their logic with `/goalkeeper:goal`.
- Ask the judge to check the active goal against its completion criteria with `/goalkeeper:goal-judge`.

Inspired by [OpenAI Codex `/goal`](https://developers.openai.com/codex/use-cases/follow-goals) and Geoffrey Huntley's [Ralph loop](https://ghuntley.com/ralph/), with one key addition: the judge.

## Why

Codex `/goal` runs autonomously until a stop-condition is met. The Ralph loop runs `while :; do cat PROMPT.md | claude-code; done` and leans on validators (compile, test, lint) to back-pressure the model. Both work, but both have the same failure mode: **a passing validator is not the same as a finished feature**. Tests can pass on stubs. Linters can pass on `.todo`s. Codex can declare victory the moment its stop-condition string matches.

goalkeeper adds a second gate. After your validator passes, a fresh subagent — independent context, no rationalizations from the executing agent — reviews the diff and the progress log against your written Definition of Done, and either approves or returns a structured fix-list. After 5 rejections it pauses and asks for human help.

## Install

Add the goalkeeper marketplace, then install the plugin:

```bash
# inside Claude Code
/plugin marketplace add bonfire-systems/goalkeeper
/plugin install goalkeeper@goalkeeper
```

Skills become available under the `goalkeeper:` namespace. Invoke as `/goalkeeper:goal "<objective>"`, `/goalkeeper:goal-prep`, `/goalkeeper:goal-judge`, etc. (Most users alias the namespace away — see "Aliasing" below.)
