## What it does

The plugin wires up an MCP server named `tidy3d` that searches and fetches Flexcompute documentation, plus skills that steer the agent while it writes or reviews code. The `flexagent` skill covers Tidy3D setup, API usage, geometry import, troubleshooting, cost-aware runs and result analysis. PhotonForge ships seven skills: PCell authoring, layout verification, circuit and time-domain simulation, cloud project versioning, schema serialization, GUI automation and yield analysis.

Everything runs through `uvx`, so `uv` has to be present first. The installer checks `uvx` and the MCP command each plugin needs — `tidy3d-mcp>=0.16.7` for Tidy3D, `tidy3d-mcp>=0.16.5` for PhotonForge and Flex RF. If `uvx` is missing in an interactive terminal it asks before running the official `uv` installer; in a headless terminal you pass `--install-uv` yourself.

Some MCP tools — environment, validation, viewer, capture, reports — only appear when an authenticated compatible editor bridge advertises them. Without that bridge the server stays remote-only. Pick a single plugin with `--plugin tidy3d`, `--plugin photonforge` or `--plugin flex-rf`; all three go in by default.

```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install flexcompute@claude-community
```
## When to use it
- set up a silicon waveguide simulation in Tidy3D without digging through docs
- check a PhotonForge layout for port and connectivity problems
- author a parameterized MMI component
- estimate run cost before submitting a job
- compute yield across process corners and wafers
## Example prompts
- Look up the Tidy3D API for ModeSource
- Check this PhotonForge layout for port issues
