## What it does

The plugin adds Claude skills around DeepEval, an open-source evaluation framework for LLM systems. Metrics run locally on your machine — some as LLM-as-a-judge, others as NLP models or statistical methods. You pick the LLM provider.

Ready-made metrics cover several cases. For agents: Task Completion, Tool Correctness, Step Efficiency, Plan Adherence. For multi-turn chatbots: Knowledge Retention, Turn Relevancy, Turn Faithfulness. G-Eval and DAG handle custom criteria, and JevEval scores with calibrated probabilities instead of generated text.

You can evaluate an app end-to-end as a black box, a full agent trajectory, or single steps such as LLM calls, tool use, retrieval and sub-agent handoffs. Teams use the scores to pick models, prompts and architecture, catch prompt drift, or move from OpenAI to Claude. One thing to plan for: judge-based metrics need an API key for the model you choose, and the NLP metrics pull in a Python environment with DeepEval's dependencies — worth checking against whatever you already use for quality checks before adding a second framework.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install deepeval@claude-plugins-official
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-official
```

## When to use it
- score an agent run and find the step where it failed
- compare two models or prompts on the same dataset
- catch prompt drift after a rewrite
- evaluate individual agent steps: tool calls, retrieval, handoffs
- move a project from Anthropic to Claude with quality checks

## Example prompts
- run DeepEval on my agent and show which steps failed
- build a dataset from these conversations and score Turn Relevancy
- compare two prompts with G-Eval on my test set

**DeepEval** is a simple-to-use, open-source LLM evaluation framework, for evaluating large-language model systems. It is similar to Pytest but specialized for unit testing LLM apps. DeepEval incorporates the latest research to run evals via metrics such as G-Eval, task completion, answer relevancy, hallucination, etc., which use LLM-as-a-judge and other NLP models that run **locally on your machine**.

Whether you're building AI agents, multi-turn chatbots, voice agents, RAG pipelines, or anything else, implemented via LangChain or OpenAI, DeepEval has you covered. With it, you can easily evaluate:

- **LLM apps end-to-end** as black boxes
- **Complete AI agent trajectories** across every decision and action
- **Individual AI agent steps** such as LLM calls, tool use, retrieval, and sub-agent handoffs

Use these evaluations to determine the optimal models, prompts, and architecture to improve your AI quality, prevent prompt drifting, or even transition from OpenAI to Claude with confidence.
