Connect an AI agent to YADE to search its API, run Python in a live session, and manage long-running simulations.

## What it does

The server lets an agent browse YADE’s class tree and search API documentation by keyword. With the bridge running, it can execute Python in YADE’s active process, submit scripts as background tasks, inspect their status and output, or stop a task. REPL state persists across calls.

You need YADE and `uv`; the client starts the server with `uvx yade-mcp`. Install `yade-mcp-bridge` into the Python interpreter YADE uses, restart YADE, then start the bridge from its console. Installing the package in a separate conda or venv interpreter won’t work: YADE cannot see packages installed there. The API browsing and search tools work without the bridge.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add yade-mcp -- uvx yade-mcp
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from yade-mcp <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add yade-mcp-server -- uvx yade-mcp
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from yade-mcp <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "yade-mcp-server": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "yade-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from yade-mcp <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "yade-mcp-server": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "yade-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from yade-mcp <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add yade-mcp-server uvx yade-mcp
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from yade-mcp <command>

## When to use it
- look up a YADE class or method
- run Python in an active YADE session
- submit a simulation script as a background task
- inspect task output and status
- stop a run at an iteration boundary

## Example prompts
- Find the YADE API details for `GlobalStiffnessTimeStepper` and add it to this model.
- Run this simulation script in the background and show me its output.
- Check the current unbalanced force without stopping the simulation.
