## What it does

The server downloads accounting records from Xero directly into an SQLite database. Local storage speeds up ledger checks. Your agent inspects accounts and balances the general ledger without waiting for remote API responses.

The package includes two binaries: `xero-mcp` and the companion CLI `xero-cli`. Both install into your user directory.

Do not enable `--transport http`. That mode lacks password protection, so stay with the default `stdio` transport to prevent unauthorized local calls.

- Environment variables: `XERO_ACCESS_TOKEN`, `XERO_AUTHORIZATION_URL`, `XERO_BASE_URL`, `XERO_CLIENT_ID`, `XERO_CLIENT_SECRET`, `XERO_OAUTH2`, `XERO_TENANT_ID`, `XERO_TOKEN_URL`, `XERO_NO_CONFIG_WRITE` — keys and tokens: ask the human for the values, never commit them or put them in shared files.
