## What it does

WoWSQL connects coding assistants to cloud database instances. Running as an HTTP MCP service, it secures tool execution using OAuth 2.0 code exchange with PKCE. The agent gains direct access to run SQL queries and inspect storage containers.

The service acts as an OAuth protected endpoint rather than the identity server itself. Inbound JSON-RPC calls sent via `POST /mcp` require Bearer tokens, which validate against `WOWSQL_API_BASE`. For Electron environments like Cursor, the server proxies registration and token endpoints to prevent local connection failures.

Local deployments require a functioning FastAPI backend reachable at `WOWSQL_API_BASE`. Without that backend service or setting `MCP_ALLOW_UNAUTHENTICATED=true`, every request fails with a 401 status code.

## Requirements
- Remote server: `https://mcp.wowsql.com/mcp`

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
claude mcp add --transport http mcp https://mcp.wowsql.com/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add wowsql --url https://mcp.wowsql.com/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "wowsql": {
            "url": "https://mcp.wowsql.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "wowsql": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://mcp.wowsql.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http wowsql https://mcp.wowsql.com/mcp
```

## When to use it
- execute SQL queries on managed Postgres instances
- search project documentation using semantic queries
- manage cloud storage buckets and objects
- route OAuth tokens reliably through Electron-based IDEs

## Example prompts
- Run a query on the WoWSQL database to retrieve recent active users
- Search the project documentation for migration instructions
- List all storage buckets available in the current project
