## What it does

Whimsical turns a prompt into an editable board. Ask for a flowchart, sequence diagram, mind map, or wireframe, then open the result in Whimsical. The server can also search workspace content, read boards and docs, modify diagrams, and handle comments.

Whimsical hosts the server, which connects over HTTP. Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, so there is no API key to manage. In Claude Code, add it with `claude mcp add --transport http whimsical https://mcp.whimsical.com/mcp`, then authenticate through `/mcp`. The free plan allows up to 50 board objects per month; paid plans have no object limit.

## When to use it
- turn a user journey into a flowchart
- map the steps in an OAuth sequence
- outline ideas for a mobile app as a mind map
- find workspace boards and docs by topic
- change a diagram and leave a team comment

## Example prompts
- Create a Whimsical flowchart for user registration, including input checks and the path to the home page.
- Search my Whimsical workspace for API architecture material and summarize the results.
- Add a rate-limiting step to the API diagram and leave a comment asking the team to review the change.
