## What it does

The `wemo` MCP server gives AI assistants direct control over Belkin Wemo hardware across your local network. Because the vendor cloud is discontinued, this tool communicates directly with devices over local Wi-Fi. Your assistant can discover switches and toggle power states through simple chat prompts.

Running the server requires Python 3.10 or newer. Launching happens via the `uvx` runner using the `wemo-mcp-server` package. If your host machine sits on a separate subnet without multicast routing, discovery cannot locate the plugs.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add wemo -- uvx wemo-mcp-server
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from wemo-mcp-server <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add wemo -- uvx wemo-mcp-server
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from wemo-mcp-server <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "wemo": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "wemo-mcp-server"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from wemo-mcp-server <command>

### GitHub Copilot

    "servers": {
        "wemo": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "wemo-mcp-server"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from wemo-mcp-server <command>
### Gemini CLI
**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add wemo uvx wemo-mcp-server
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from wemo-mcp-server <command>
## When to use it
- toggle Belkin Wemo smart outlets through prompt commands
- scan the local subnet for connected Wemo switches
- adjust lighting levels on compatible dimmers
- manage Wemo hardware offline without vendor cloud services
## Example prompts
- Find all Wemo switches connected to my local network
- Turn off the Wemo smart plug in the office
- Set the Wemo dimmer brightness to 70%
