# Weather MCP Server

Hands your agent current weather, air quality and timezone tools through the open Open-Meteo API. Useful when a task needs conditions or local time for a specific place.

## What it does

The server exposes weather metrics to the agent: temperature, humidity, dew point, wind speed with gusts, precipitation and its probability, pressure, cloud cover, UV index, visibility, feels-like temperature, plus sunrise and sunset in the location's local time. Air quality comes as a separate set — PM2.5, PM10, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, ammonia, dust, aerosol optical depth and health advisories. Time tools cover the current date and time in any timezone, conversion between zones and timezone lookup.

Three transport modes ship in one server. `stdio` is the standard pick for desktop clients like Claude Desktop and Cline. `sse` runs an HTTP server with `/sse` and `/messages/` endpoints for web apps. `streamable-http` exposes a single `/mcp` endpoint and can run stateful or stateless. HTTP modes listen on `0.0.0.0:8080` by default; `--host` and `--port` change that. SSE and Streamable HTTP need `starlette` and `uvicorn` installed first — without them the HTTP mode won't start.

Cline configuration goes into `cline_mcp_settings.json` by hand, inside the `mcpServers` object, as a `python` command with `-m mcp_weather_server` arguments. No API key is involved since the server talks to Open-Meteo. The agent picks the right tool on its own once you ask about weather or time.

## Requirements
- Needs: Python and uv (commands run via uvx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add mcp-weather-server -- uvx mcp-weather-server
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-weather-server <command>

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add weather-mcp-server -- uvx mcp-weather-server
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-weather-server <command>

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "weather-mcp-server": {
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "mcp-weather-server"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-weather-server <command>

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "weather-mcp-server": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "uvx",
            "args": [
                "mcp-weather-server"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-weather-server <command>

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add weather-mcp-server uvx mcp-weather-server
```
uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from mcp-weather-server <command>

## When to use it
- check the weather in a city for a specific date with hourly detail
- read air quality data and health recommendations
- convert a time from one timezone to another
- get sunrise and sunset in the location's local time
- run a weather MCP server over HTTP for a web app

## Example prompts
- What's the weather in Berlin right now, and how's the air quality?
- Give me the hourly forecast for Tokyo tomorrow
- Convert 15:00 Moscow time to Los Angeles time
