# vehicle-data

Vincario’s MCP server lets an AI agent decode VINs, check stolen-vehicle records and retrieve market valuations. Use it to ask about a vehicle in natural language.

## What it does

The server gives an agent four Vincario tools: VIN decoding, listing the fields available for a VIN, checking stolen-vehicle databases and estimating market value with an odometer reading. You can make these requests in plain language.

A Vincario API key is required and must be sent in the `X-API-Key` HTTP header. The server uses streamable HTTP, with independent requests and no persistent session. Without the key, calls to the Vincario API will not work.

The project describes Docker and local startup with Python 3.11+ and `uv`. For a local connection, it uses `http://localhost:8080` and the API-key header; a hosted Vincario server is also available.

## Requirements
- Remote server: `https://mcp.vincario.com/mcp`

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
claude mcp add --transport http vehicle-data https://mcp.vincario.com/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
codex mcp add vehicle-data --url https://mcp.vincario.com/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "vehicle-data": {
            "url": "https://mcp.vincario.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "vehicle-data": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://mcp.vincario.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t http vehicle-data https://mcp.vincario.com/mcp
```

## When to use it
- decode a VIN to retrieve vehicle details
- list the fields available for a VIN
- check whether a vehicle appears in stolen-vehicle records
- get a market valuation using the odometer reading

## Example prompts
- Decode VIN `WBAFR9C54BC780006` and summarize the vehicle details.
- Check whether VIN `WBAFR9C54BC780006` appears in stolen-vehicle records.
- Estimate the market value for VIN `WBAFR9C54BC780006` with an odometer reading of 85000 km.
