# Uplink

Runs a real browser on a device you pair, inside a session you are already signed into. Useful when headless automation gets blocked at login or by a captcha.

## What it does

Uplink takes over a phone or laptop you have paired. The model works inside your live session, so it sees the actual DOM, the network requests and the console output. Nothing is stored on the server side, because you sign in yourself in your own browser.

Setup goes in two steps. You ask your AI client to connect and it hands back a pairing link; you open that link on the device in the Uplink Connect app. Before any of that, sign in once with `npx @uplink-code/cli login` — the server reads the credentials that CLI writes.

The package is proprietary, not open source. You need Node.js so `npx` can fetch it. Pair a device where you are not signed in and there is nothing for the model to drive.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add uplink -- npx -y @uplink-code/mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add uplink -- npx -y @uplink-code/mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "uplink": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@uplink-code/mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "uplink": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@uplink-code/mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add uplink npx -y @uplink-code/mcp
```

## When to use it
- walk through a flow on a site that blocks headless browsers
- see how a page behaves inside a logged-in account
- capture real network traffic and console errors
- let an agent reach a site without handing over a password

## Example prompts
- Connect through Uplink and open the orders page in my account
- Run the checkout flow on the paired device and show me what goes over the network
- Pull the console errors from this page with Uplink
