## What it does

The server communicates with Unreal Editor through its built-in Python Remote Execution system. The `manage_*` tools provide project, map, and level information, while direct tools cover selected lower-level operations. For debugging or UE4.27 API calls without a dedicated wrapper, agents can use `manage_editor.run_python`.

You need Unreal Engine `4.27.2`, Node.js `18+`, and `npm`. Enable `Python Editor Script Plugin`, `Editor Scripting Utilities`, and `Enable Remote Execution` in the project; advanced sequence actions also require `SequencerScripting`. Connected clients can inspect and modify the open editor session, so test against a disposable project first. This repository does not install a custom Unreal plugin.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Works with: Unreal Engine

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add unreal-mcp-ue4 -- npx -y unreal-mcp-ue4
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add unreal-mcp-ue4 -- npx -y unreal-mcp-ue4
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "unreal-mcp-ue4": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "unreal-mcp-ue4"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "unreal-mcp-ue4": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "unreal-mcp-ue4"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add unreal-mcp-ue4 npx -y unreal-mcp-ue4
```

## When to use it
- inspect an Unreal project summary
- read map details and the level actor list
- create, update, or delete an actor
- run Python in the editor to test a UE4.27 API call

## Example prompts
- Show me the open project's summary and current map.
- List the actors in this level and update the one I specify.
- Run Python in the editor to test this UE4.27 API call.
