## What it does

The server bridges clients like Claude Code or Cursor to a running Godot instance over a local WebSocket on port 6505. Running it requires Node.js and the `godot_mcp` plugin placed inside the project's `addons/` folder. Once enabled in Project Settings, Godot displays an active agent badge in the upper right corner.

It provides 32 tools handling scene setup, script updates, directory inspection, and input map queries. The agent can attach collision shapes, adjust node properties, and validate GDScript syntax. In addition, the `map_project` action serves an interactive script relationship visualizer in the browser at `localhost:6510`.

Native `Ctrl+Z` inside Godot will not revert edits applied by the assistant because changes write directly to disk. Rollbacks require asking the agent to trigger the `mcp_undo` tool. The setup operates strictly on localhost and attaches to one Godot editor at a time.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)
- Works with: Godot

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add godot-mcp -- npx -y godot-mcp-server
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add mcp-server -- npx -y godot-mcp-server
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "mcp-server": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "godot-mcp-server"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "mcp-server": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "godot-mcp-server"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add mcp-server npx -y godot-mcp-server
```

## When to use it
- inspect and manipulate Godot scene trees directly through the AI assistant
- edit GDScript files with syntax validation without manual copy-pasting
- explore script connections and signals via an interactive browser graph
- read project settings and collision layers straight from the running editor

## Example prompts
- Add a CharacterBody2D node with a collision shape to the current scene and create a movement script.
- Run map_project to visualize script dependencies at localhost:6510.
- Revert the last change made to the player scene using mcp_undo.
