## What it does

TLE Satellite Tracker is an MCP server in front of the TLE API, serving two-line element sets as JSON. Records refresh daily from CelesTrak, so the agent reads current orbital elements instead of a stale snapshot.

Two endpoints do the work: `GET /api/tle?search={query}` matches a satellite by name, and `GET /api/tle/{id}` returns one record for a satellite number. The server is remote — it speaks SSE at `https://tle.ivanstanojevic.me/mcp`, so there is nothing to run locally and no API key to obtain.

Make sure your client supports the SSE transport. Codex has no ready install command here, so you wire the connection up yourself. Cursor and GitHub Copilot take a JSON block in their MCP settings file.

## Requirements
- Remote server: `https://tle.ivanstanojevic.me/mcp`

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
claude mcp add --transport sse tle-satellite https://tle.ivanstanojevic.me/mcp
```

### Codex

**Codex**
- Codex connects MCP servers over stdio and streamable HTTP only, and this server speaks SSE

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "tle-satellite-tracker": {
            "url": "https://tle.ivanstanojevic.me/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "tle-satellite-tracker": {
            "type": "sse",
            "url": "https://tle.ivanstanojevic.me/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI: remote server**
```bash
gemini mcp add -t sse tle-satellite-tracker https://tle.ivanstanojevic.me/mcp
```

## When to use it
- look up a satellite number by name before an orbit calculation
- fetch current TLE data for one specific object
- check orbital elements against the daily CelesTrak refresh
- feed orbital elements into a script without copying them by hand
- build a shortlist of satellites from a search term

## Example prompts
- Find the TLE record for the Hubble satellite
- Show orbital elements for satellite number 25544
- Search the TLE catalog for Starlink satellites
