# Tabellum

Connects AI assistants to the Tabellum desktop database app. Lets agents inspect schemas and execute reads, while mutations wait for manual approval.

## What it does

This package provides a stdio shim linking your coding agent to an active Tabellum desktop client across PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, and BigQuery. The agent receives tools to explore schemas, fetch table definitions, inspect indexes, and stream drafted SQL statements into an open editor tab.

Safety is enforced at the parser level. Read statements run directly, but any data modification or schema alteration triggers `propose_write` and pauses until you approve it inside the desktop UI. Without the Tabellum desktop app running on the host machine, every MCP call fails immediately. Running the bridge package also requires Node.js 24 or newer.

## Requirements
- Needs: Node.js (commands run via npx)

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

**Platform CLI**
```bash
claude mcp add tabellum -- npx -y @dudko.dev/tabellum-mcp
```

### Codex

**Platform CLI**
```bash
codex mcp add tabellum -- npx -y @dudko.dev/tabellum-mcp
```

### Cursor

**Config file**
File `.cursor/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "tabellum": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@dudko.dev/tabellum-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### GitHub Copilot

**Config file**
File `.vscode/mcp.json`:
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "tabellum": {
            "type": "stdio",
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@dudko.dev/tabellum-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini mcp add tabellum npx -y @dudko.dev/tabellum-mcp
```

## When to use it
- inspect database schemas, columns, and constraints from the AI session
- execute read-only queries across multiple database drivers
- draft SQL queries directly into an open desktop editor tab
- prevent unauthorized database mutations through mandatory GUI approvals

## Example prompts
- List my active database connections in Tabellum and describe the users table schema.
- Run an explain plan on this select query using the current connection.
- Draft a query to find the top customers by revenue and send it to the Tabellum editor.
